Aquanita Formguide
From The Horses Mouth

Autumn is a time for change; hot days become cooler, the days become shorter and for many of us the various football codes may start to enter our conscience. For the racing enthusiast - tragic - our attention for a brief period turns the focus away from flat racing and instead highlights the great jumps racing we have here in the southern states of Australia. While we don't perhaps share the passion or tradition of jumps racing like the northern hemisphere we do have jumping carnivals that are uniquely Australian in style and colour.

The two major jumps carnivals on mainland Australia are at Oakbank in South Australia held each year over Easter, and the Warrnambool Carnival which is traditionally in the first week of May. This year Warrnambool or the "The Bool" will again host three days of high class racing with the jumps racing the absolute star and highlight of the week. The carnival of racing begins on Tuesday the 1st of May and continues until Thursday the 3rd of May, the culmination being the Grand Annual Hurdle over 5 500m. This year total stakes money for the three days of racing will be just shy of one million dollars

Aquanita will have strong presence at the carnival with Dan O'Sullivan looking to defend his title as leading jumps trainer over the three-day event. As a proud supporter of racing, Aquanita will also sponsor a race on day two of the carnival. We hope to see you all there for a great week of racing.

Hofmeister - A Horse Tale

The adage that one door closes and that another one opens is certainly true for the dynamic duo of Hofmeister, the racehorse and his owner 93 years young Mr. Peter Shearer. Mr. Shearer turned to racing horses at the ripe young age of 83 after a long career in the saddle with the Findon Hunt Club. As age forced him to retire from the saddle he turned his interests in horses to thoroughbreds.

Hofmeister began his career known as Dancing Dagger but his previous owners Written Bloodstock put him through a tried horse sale. Aquanita trainer Robert Smerdon had trained Mr. Shearer's two previous horses Jaegermeister and Ritmeister. From the catalogue Robert found two suitable candidates, they were Dance The Waves and Dancing Daggers. Dancing Daggers was selected as the most suitable option, had a name change to Hofmeister and joined the Aquanita stable. "Hof" refers to Germany's Royal Court and "meister" is German for "master'

This season Hofmeister has really hit his straps, from 8 starts this campaign he has recorded four wins and two minor placings on the way winning nearly $420k in prizemoney for his ecstatic owner. The two-standout performances of Hofmeisters season have been the Mornington Cup at Listed Level and the Launceston Cup at Group 3 which he won by six and three quarter lengths, blowing away his opposition. The six year old will continue to race while he is in career best form and trips to Sydney and Brisbane are definitely on the cards.

Dance The Waves has forged a great career in his own right after being purchased and sent to the Gold Coast to be trained by the astute Gillian Heinrich. Ironically both Hofmeister and Dance The Waves were able to win on the same card at Caulfield on the 13th of January this year.

Jailbreak

For those of you who wished you were at the Cavern Club to witness the Beatles early performances many of you will be able to say they saw the first performance of Jailbreak when they hit the big-time. Jailbreak's first gig - rock and roll talk for performance - was at the Aquanita Cup function in October 2006. The boys have wasted no time with their career having recently won the St Kilda Festival Air New Music Stage Award. The win gives the boys the opportunity to play on the main stage at the Festival next year and a cash prize of $5000. The fab four have put the music career on the backburner this year, as they are all currently completing their final year of high school. We hope they not to big to play at the function this year.

Bye Bye Bomber

The 9th of March 2007 was a sad day at Aquanita for we bade farewell to a true champion. He always gave his all, never shirked an issue or was late to a training session. There was no incident outside a nightclub to explain to his adoring public and he had problems arising over inappropriate use of text messaging on his mobile phone. He was just Bomber Bill.

Try and think back to the 20th of December 1997 that was the day Bomber Bill had his first start as a racehorse. What were you doing on that day? Fast-forward to the 3rd of March 2007 the day of Bomber's last run, and what has transpired in the years in between in your own life?

He ran in a total of 98 races winning 23 times with 7 seconds and 4 thirds, he raced in 5 states of Australia and competed in Hong Kong and Dubai. Of his 23 wins 17 were at Listed Level or higher, the highlights being the three Group 1 wins. The first at two in the Karrakatta Plate in Perth, the second the Australia Stakes and the third the time honoured Goodwood Handicap.

Now Bomber has left the stable for the last time to while away his days at the Legends Farm. He will share stables and paddocks with the other old timers, Better Loosen Up, Silent Witness, Might And Power and Fields Of Omagh.

Bye Bomber.
