Horses to Watch - spring 2007
Laspiel
• This handsome chestnut colt recently broke through for a well-deserved win at Moonee Valley over 1550m. The performance was good enough that suggests there will be a good race for him during the carnival.
Miss Lucille
• A bout of shin soreness cut short the autumn campaign for Miss Lucille. A break at the Drysdale farm saw this filly bloom and she has returned in great shape. Look for her to be running in the 3 year old fillies classic races.
Lacey Underall
• This game mare had a terrific season where she ran a close second to Gallic in the Adelaide Cup. Connections are going to bypass the two big cups in Melbourne and instead concentrate on the Perth Cup run on New Years Day. Races like the Seymour Cup, Werribee Cup and the Matriarch Stakes on Emirates Stakes day, have been penciled in as warm ups before the trip west.
Hofmeister
• A stable favourite, raced eleven times for five wins last campaign. A good first up run at Caulfield where he hit the line hard running slick sectionals showed there are more good wins in store this spring. The top spring cups may be beyond him but look for him in races like the Geelong and Ballarat Cups.
Falco Star
• With two wins from five career starts there is every chance this son of Falvelon could travel south to emulate the deeds of his sire. The spring riches may be hard to pass up if Falco Star continues to shine in his native Brisbane.

Season Highlights
The last racing season was jeweled with many outstanding highlights for the Aquanita team. When you stop and look back there were some remarkable performances.
The two Group One victories of Haradasun during the Sydney Autumn Carnival, the three year old took the step that later saw a 50% share of him sold to international racing and breeding leviathans Coolmore.
94-year young owner Peter Shearer and wife Barbara enjoyed a fantastic season. Their horse Hofmeister recorded a magnificent win in the Group Three Launceston Cup. From eleven starts he managed five wins and two minor placing.
The Commonwealth Golf Club rocked from May to August following the deeds of Some Are Bent who led the resurgence in jumps racing. The gelding put together seven dashing victories in a row.
Lacey Underall and Creekside both gave their owners plenty to cheer about. Lacey went within a whisker of the Adelaide Cup in May but just couldn't outlast the Lloyd Williams owned Gallic. The honest Creekside gave the battlers something to cheer about when he saluted on Melbourne Cup day. His owners took over the Flemington mounting yard and rocked the owner's bar post race just like they won the Melbourne Cup.

Around The Tracks
• Congratulations to all the country race clubs who made the finals for Country Racing Club of the year. The Aquanita team was silently supporting the Swan Hill Race Club as this year they chose Haradasun as their ambassador. Alas even with the support of the super horse Swan Hill would not win, the award going to Yarra Valley.
• Last month we reported on an outstanding new vet procedure IRAP that has become available. The revolutionary technique is having an immediate impact, with several groups of owners opting to use the procedure.
• With the onset of 2 year old racing there is always a mad dash to name the up and coming champs. Names that caught the eye recently were Ottumwa out of O'reily and the well-named Choisir x Merrymaker colt Gilbeau.
• Caulfield is fast becoming the United Nations. On staff at present we have representatives from India, Ireland, New Zealand, Turkey, Ukraine, Columbia and of course Australia.
