Wednesday, 9 May 2012: New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale concluded today at Karaka with the broodmare session closing the three-day Sale.
With a smaller offering than 2011, in the final analysis 501 horses have sold for $5,029,850 at a combined average of $10,040, marginally up on last year's average of $10,018. This reflects a clearance rate of 81% across the three days of selling with the median of $2,500, an increase of 4% on last year's $2,400.
The highlight of the broodmare session was the Group performing full sister to Monaco Consul, So Divine at Lot 632, fetching the top price of $130,000.

Offered by Goodwood Stud, she was in hot demand with John Foote securing the daughter of
High Chaparral from New Zealand Bloodstock's Danny Rolston who was underbidder for Glenn Burrows of Willow Park Stud in New South Wales.
A regular buyer at Karaka, John Foote targeted the mare on behalf of Australian-based clients and is pleased with the purchase.
"She's a Group placed sister to a Derby winner and her dam has had a number of good fillies that are going to very good stallions so there is a lot of potential in the family. There are a few good options but I haven't worked out a stallion for her yet.
"I knew she would make at least $100,000 and was hoping to get her as close to that as possible, as it worked out she was almost exactly $100,000 Australian so that was about right."
With 252 broodmares on offer, 174 were sold for $1,576,950, representing an increase in both average and clearance on last year's results. The average of $9,063 reflected a 10% increase on 2011's $8,269 while the clearance rate climbed from 79% to 80%.
The leading individual broodmare buyer was Peter Murray's Victoria-based Murray Thoroughbreds with three purchases for a total of $190,000. Buying on behalf of Peter, Brian Messner felt the trip to New Zealand had been very worthwhile.
"We targeted these mares and purchased them specifically with the intention of sending them to Redwood who will stand his first season at Westbury this season," commented Brian.
"It was tough going in the ring as the well desired lots were the subject of strong demand but we thought the mares we bought were outstanding value and we are pleased that we came to Karaka to purchase them."
The leading vendor by aggregate for the broodmare session was Don McLaren's Northfields Stud with 10 lots sold for an aggregate of $232,250 and an average of $23,225. It has been a successful sale for the stud which topped yesterday's weanling session by average and sold the top priced weanling, the
High Chaparral colt at Lot 311.
The leading broodmare vendor by average was Rex and William Fell's Goodwood Stud with three entries selling for an average of $52,867, which included the top lot So Divine.
The leading vendor by aggregate for the Sale was Gordon Cunningham's Curraghmore Stud, who also topped the vendors' table in the weanling session for the seventh year in a row. In total, Curraghmore Stud sold 37 horses for $1,163,950 at an average of $31,458.
Cambridge Stud's Stravinsky headed the broodmares sires table with three mares sold for an average of $30,700 and a top price of $87,500 (Lot 633).
