Wednesday, 11 July 2012: Excellent Art filly Blackman made a smart debut when scoring over 1100m at Geelong on Tuesday to continue a series of encouraging results for her young sire.
The David Hayes trained filly was sent off a well backed favourite to defy older rivals and a wide gate.
Breaking quickly, she showed good speed to establish a clear lead rounding the turn and stayed on strongly to score comfortably by a length.
Hayes has a good opinion of Blackman.
“She is still very raw, but she's always shown us nice ability and is a filly with potential,” he said.
“We were hopeful that she'd go close today after her promising trial last week and she looks capable at making her mark at a higher level in due course'.
A daughter of the Danzero mare Busty, Blackman is the fourth winner from the first Australasian crop of her
sire.
They include nine individual placegetters from just over 20 runners to date.
Excellent Art is scheduled to stand the 2012 season at
Coolmore Australia at a fee of $8,800.
