Big Chance For Big Brown

Friday, 20 July 2012: US champion Big Brown has a golden opportunity to register his first stakes-winner from less than a handful of runners when the unbeaten Brown Eyes Blue tackles the G3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga this weekend.

The Vinery Stud shuttle sire kick started his stud career on the best possible note with his first NH runner winning on debut. This was quickly followed by another in the US and then a third being his first on turf.

With three winners from his first seven runner's and another that placed on debut Big Brown has quickly justified some of the big sales prices that his Ready To Run 2YOs commanded earlier this year.

One of his early winners Brown Eyes Blue makes her debut in black type company in the first of 35 scheduled stakes races during the Saratoga season.

The first real test of 2YO fillies in the US for the year, the Schuylerville Stakes was been won by some of America's best females including Weekend Surprise (dam of A.P Indy) in 1982 through to dual Eclipse Award winner Ashado in 2003.

It is often the platform for bigger things with Hot Dixie Chick winning in 2009 before claiming the GI Spinaway Stakes in record time at her next start.

Brown Eyes Blue scored an impressive win when she debuted on June 30 at Kentucky's Churchill Downs where her sire recorded his incredible Kentucky Derby triumph before claiming the Preakness Stakes.

“Brown Eyes Blue is the only filly in the field to have won at the Schuylerville distance of six furlongs,” commented Vinery Stud's Conor Phelan.

"She did so beating 11 opponents. All other runner's nominated in the Schuylerville have run at shorter distances, and against much smaller fields."

"Big Brown was a 2YO turf winner on debut and he may well prove to produce 2YOs as good as himself."
