NZB Southern Bonus Races

Friday, 27 July 2012: New Zealand Bloodstock's Southern Bonus Race will now have two feature lead-ups - the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Southern Bonus Preludes - which will offer an additional $10,000 in bonuses to eligible graduates.

To be held at Riccarton Park on Friday 14 September (1200m) and Sunday 6 October (1400m), each New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Southern Bonus Prelude will offer a $5000 bonus on top of any stakes winnings to any Southern Bonus Race eligible horse that can win the Prelude.

New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Manager Jim Bruford is pleased to support the Southern Bonus Race and reward those buyers who signed up their two-year-olds last year.

"New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance is a major sponsor of racing in New Zealand and we are thrilled to be offering these attractive bonuses to owners with eligible horses," said Jim Bruford.

"These Southern Bonus Preludes offer further incentive for buyers to come and purchase a horse from the South Island Sale and enter the Southern Bonus Race and also make for some exciting racing coming into the Southern Bonus Race in November."

A new incentive race offered to buyers for the first time at the 2011 South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock, the inaugural Southern Bonus Race will be held at Riccarton Park on 14 November and is an open three-year-old race over 1400 metres.

The Southern Bonus Race will offer a $50,000 cash bonus on top of any stakes winnings to the first eligible graduate across the line. Importantly for buyers, entered horses get preference in field selection, and the horse doesn't have to win the race to collect the bonus, it only has to be the first eligible horse past the post.

New Zealand Bloodstock will be offering the Southern Bonus Preludes and Southern Bonus Race again to buyers at this year's South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock. Entries into the 2013 Series are just $250 + GST per horse.

All two-year-olds must be nominated for the 2013 Southern Bonus Race before the September 10 deadline.

The 2012 South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock will be held at Christchurch's Canterbury Agricultural Park on Friday 10 August from 11am.
