Monday, 30 July 2012: High class shuttle sire Bernardini has sired the winner of the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga for the second successive year.
Godolphin-owned colt Alpha gave Bernardini the remarkable double, following the 2011 winner Stay Thirsty who won the race on the way to his G1 Travers Stakes win at Saratoga.
Alpha also won the G3 Withers Stakes at Aqueduct in February and was placed in the G1 Champagne Stakes at two and G1 Wood Memorial Stakes at three.
He is out of the stakes-winner Munnaya by Nijinsky and is a half-brother to stakes winner Mystic Melody, stakes-placed Lavender Sky and two other black type runners.
His dam Munnaya is a half-sister to stakes winners Sheer Reason and Mall Queen and she has a yearling brother to Alpha.
Bernardini (A.P. Indy) had a fantastic freshman crop and is currently represented by four northern hemisphere G1 winners including To Honor And Serve and Stay Thirsty.
His second crop includes Graded/Group winners Alpha, Algorithms, Gamilati and Via Villaggio.
