Friday, 17 August 2012: Miss Andretti's younger sister Peggie’s Dream is looming as a prospect for major success in the spring.

Unlike Miss Andretti, a mare who kicked off with a debut win at Pinjarra in Western Australia as an early three-year-old, Peggie’s Dream only began racing at four when she made a winning appearance at Bunbury in March of this year.
She is now unbeaten in her three starts, her second and third wins coming over 1000m at Perth’s Belmont this month. She is also unbeaten in three trials.
Peggie’s Dream races for her breeders, her namesake Peggy Beauglehole and husband Ron. They own a small horse farm near Bunbury in the south of WA where Peggie’s Dream is trained by the partnership of Bruce Watkins and Gary Hitchcock.
Officially, the Beauglehole’s bred Miss Andretti, a mare who indubitably would have given Black Caviar a run for her money. Like Peggie’s Dream, she is from Peggie’s Bid, an unraced daughter of the Mill Reef import Marooned, a Sydney Cup winner who went to stud in WA.
The Beaugleholes did a deal with Peggy’s cousin Ray Cockrane, owner of Wayandah Stud at nearby Capel in WA, for him to take the mare on a free lease basis provided he returned her later if her early progeny were successful.
They were afraid if they put her in a sale she would end up in a knackery.
Cockrane was standing Ihtiram, the Irish bred son of Royal Academy who was a Listed winner in England and successful in Melbourne and Adelaide.
His first mating with Peggie’s Dream produced the mercurial Miss Andretti, a mare who cost her initial owner David Mueller nothing. He took her home as a weanling out of the Wayandah paddock with the suggestion from Cockrane that "if she looks like being a winner you can give me a small percentage".
Such is the gamble that is breeding that two horses with staying pedigrees – one an unheralded stallion who had almost died twice and an unknown mare who had a death sentence commuted - would together produce one of the fastest sprinting mares the world has seen.
Miss Andretti 
raced 31 times for 19 wins, the first nine in WA, from 1000m to 1200m and $2.8million.
They included 13 stakes victories headed by five G1 races in Melbourne (Newmarket Hcp in course record time), Lightning Stakes, Victoria Racing Club Stakes, William Reid Stakes and Manikato Stakes in course record).
She also won the G2 Schillaci at Caulfield and went to England to set a track record time for five furlongs in taking the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
All told she set five track records, the first of them for 1200m at Perth’s Ascot course in 2005. Remarkably that record was smashed in 2008 by her two years younger brother Danny Beau.
Also raced out of the Watkins-Hitchcock stables by the Beaugleholes, Danny Beau won nine races with all but one in Perth.
He holds both the 1000m and 1200m records at Ascot.
Miss Andretti was named Australian Champion Sprinter for 2007 and Australian Horse of the Year for 2006-07.
Half-way through her racing career, she was sold to prominent Victorian owner and breeder Sean Buckley and Mrs G. Guenzi and transferred to the Lee Freedman stable.
Put to stud in 2008 at Buckley’s Barree Stud in Victoria, Miss Andretti produced the unraced Exceed And Excel colt Mr Villeneuve from her first mating.
She missed in 2009 and slipped her 2010 service.
She was served on December 11 last year by Star Witness.

Miss Andretti was a great sprinter who gave her all most of the time but the reality is that try as she might she only won 19/31 career starts.
By comparison Black Caviar has won "most" of her 22/22 career starts thus far easing up, coasting to the line & still running faster times than Miss Andretti.
BUT
Who was the faster sprinter?
The FACTS are that in 31 starts Miss Andretti "NEVER" broke 57 seconds for 1000m.
By comparison in her far fewer (22)career starts thus far Black Caviar has not only broken 57 seconds "THREE" times but she has also run a sub 56 seconds for a 1000m. (55.53 seconds)
So in summary Black Caviar in only 22 starts has been able to run sub 57 seconds for 1000m "FOUR" times.
By comparison in 31 career starts Miss Andretti "NEVER" broke 57 seconds for 1000m!
Also Miss Andretti has only "EVER" broken 1:08 for 1200m "once" in her 31 career starts.
By comparison Black Caviar who has only had 22 career starts thus far has run sub 1:08 for 1200m "TWICE" including absolutely coasting to the line carrying a record weight for a mare of (58kg) in the Newmarket Hcp in 1:07.36.
By comparison Miss Andretti''s BEST ever time for 1200m (her only sub 1:08) was 1:07.74 when carrying only 56kg.
Most thinking people
(but perhaps not a Gibbon)
would realise that Black Caviar could easily have a string of course & race records by now if she had been ridden out instead of continually being eased down & coasting to the line in most of her races.
I find your distorted view of Black caviar''s latest win in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes "laughable".

"with leaders going well, shaken up 2f out, ridden to lead over 1f out, pushed out inside final furlong, rider eased when in command towards finish, driven and held on final strides"

Black Caviar WON a Diamond Jubilee carrying 57.5kg beating Moonlight Cloud a susequent 5 len winner of a G1 sprint at his very next start.
By comparison Miss Andretti finished 15th in a Diamond Jubilee when carrying "only" 56kg.

Does that mean that the only mare in the world comparable with Black Caviar would have to be ZENYATTA (USA) dkb-br. F, 2004 winning all 19 of her starts, retiring when going under to a Colt two (2) years her junior while attempting her first ever run at 10F?

What you are alluding to, is, that Black Caviar wasn''t being "ridden out", or, "racing to the best of her ability and merit"? That she was being "held in"? That we will never know her TRUE potential?
Isn''t there some rule which concerns this issue?... Me being only an interested member of the Public… Does it mean that a horse has to lose before something is done? Pardon my ignorance. There would surely have been a hue and cry if she had of lost on her debut to the "International stage".
It seems to me, that there are rules for the elite, and rules for the every day run of the mill horses and jockey? Which leads me to another issue…
Why wasn''t her rider, Luke Nolan, rubbed out for his "stop riding" her (which he admitted to the world)in the closing part of the GOLDEN JUBILEE STAKES (CORK AND ORRERY STKS) (2012)?…
That he was saving her because she was "hurt"?
I''d say on watching the video clip (quite a few times), that the damage the mare sustained came from Luke Nolan "getting her going again."… You can see her rump digging in to get momentum.
Ps… If TIME has any significance, then GUISEPPINA (NZ) b. M, 2006 may well give BC a run for her money... She won the WRC TELEGRAPH HANDICAP G1 1200m in the time of 1:06.94... Either New Zealand has a faster mare, OR, New Zealand''s 1200m isn''t 1200 meters.

As good as she was Miss Andretti does not compare favourably to Black Caviar.
For a start Miss Andretti was beaten 8 times in her first 22 starts.
Black Caviar remains unbeaten after 22 starts including performing at the highest level on the international stage.
Miss Andretti finished 11th of 14 runners in a Newmarket when carrying only 51kg.
Both Miss Andretti & Black Caviar won a Newmarket on a good track in similar times
(BC marginally faster)
BUT
Miss Andretti only carried 5kg above the limit whereas Black Caviar won effortlesly, easing down & vitually cantering to the line carrying
"8kg over the limit".
My intuition based on FACTS & FIGURES
(rather than FANTASY)
tells me that Miss Andretti at level weights would have been left paddling & gasping for breath in the slipstream of Black Caviar''s wake!

The following data is self explanatory… The problem is the lack of weights. The condition of the tracks. Forget conjecture of what might be, have been or any other argument… All I can say, is, it would have been a wonderful race to behold… Black Caviar wouldn''t have had it her own way, in fact, I doubt Black Caviar would have a record of 22 straight wins… In fact, intuition tells me Miss Andretti may have stopped her in her tracks.
