Monday, 20 August 2012: Talented South Australian three-year-old Phychic Mick became the first stakes winner for the Danehill sire Shinzig when he outclassed his rivals in the Listed Vain Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
The unbeaten Psychic Mick is the first named foal for the Melbourne winner Super Fund (Bianconi).
Super Fund, a winner at 1200 and 1400m, is a half sister to the stakes placed 26 time winner Lascaux who was sold to Macau where he earned over $1.7 million.
Named after his yearling sale buyer and senior part owner Michael Duffield, Psychic Mick was racing for the first time since a stylish win at Morphettville on June 2 and is now three from three for trainer Daniel Clarken.
Duffield bought the colt from last year's Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale for just $10,000.
"My brother-in-law Mick Duffield bought him on a premonition," Clarken said.
"He said he wanted to look at lot 118 - he had a premonition. So he went and had a look at him and the rest is history - that's how he got his name.
"He was a good type of horse and we thought he would have to spend a bit more money than we did but we got him with one bid for $10,000,"
Psychic Mick could be the fairytale story of the spring if he goes on to win the $1 million Caulfield Guineas in October.
