Monday, 20 August 2012: More than 180 horses have been nominated for Tasracing’s new TasBonus scheme by breeders and owners for the 2012/13 racing season.
Tasracing CEO Eliot Forbes said the TasBonus scheme replaced the former RVL aligned SuperVOBIS scheme.
“The number of nominations we received exceeded our initial expectations, which is obviously a pleasing result,” he said.
“And more horses paid up for TasBonus than the previous scheme.”
Dr Forbes said Tasracing contributed $150,000 to TasBonus, which was on top of the $85,690 contributed by breeders and owners.
“Tasracing’s contribution to the scheme reaffirms its support for the Tasmanian thoroughbred breeding industry,” he said.
The TasBonus scheme pays $4000 ($3000 to the owner and $1000 to the breeder) for nominated two-year-old and three-year-old horse’s first maiden win.
Four-year-old horses are rewarded with a $3000 bonus for their maiden win ($2250 for the owner and $750 for the breeder).
Owners and breeders are eligible for an additional $3000 and $1000 bonus respectively for non-maiden horses winning additional specified two-year-old and three-year-old races.
Winning owners of specified two-year-old and three-year-old races will have the option of converting their $3000 cash bonus into a $6000 sale credit to be utilised at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
