Monday, 20 February 2006: The 2006 Malaysia Airlines Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale was declared the best ever by company representatives at the completion of the third and final session on February 17.
The final session featured a new final day record top price, average and aggregate.
Some 184 yearlings sold for $2,256,750 at an average of $12,265.
The combined aggregate for the three day catalogue was $13,418,750, smashing last year's previous record of $9,231,500.
Magic Millions managing director David Chester said he was delighted with the continual growth of the sale and was already looking forward to 2007 at Belmont.
"The Perth sale is quickly becoming one of the most popular in the country," Chester said.
"Many of the country's top trainers will be getting yearlings purchased here over the past few days to train.
"Of the four major yearlings sales in Australasia this year we are delighted that our two auctions have proven the most successful by growth from the previous year's results," Chester said.
"We are pleased that buyers are seeing the benefits from our continual emphasis on compiling the best possible catalogues, attracting the best possible buying benches and our efforts at marketing the product to the world."
The top price of the third session was $71,000 for a colt by the exciting young Rory's Jester sire Real Jester.
He was purchased by Lindsay Park bloodstock agent Mark Pilkington.
He was offered by Rangeview Stud, the farm responsible for the Key Business filly from Cold Fusion sold on day one for a Perth sale record of $210,000.
Pilkington said he was excited about the future for Real Jester who next spring will stand for the first time at Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia.
