Listed Visit Victoria Plate, November 5 - Flemington
Salon Soldier grabbed his second win from as many starts in Australia.
It was an impressive win to Salon Soldier to retain his undefeated record in Australia.
He settled down in fourth on the fence tracking a strong pace set by Rain Drum and Mull Of Killough, before gaining a lovely rails run on turning for home. Picking up well in the straight he drew away to a taking length win.
Midsummer Sun was suited by the fast early pace, settled down last before cornering on the outside of the field. He finished on strongly for second and will be suited by a step up in distance.
Mull Of Killough ran a huge race in defeat under his big weight of 61.5kg. He was always asked to do a little too much on the pace. He fought the whole way to the line and answered every request of his jockey. A really game run further re-enforcing the worth of the Cox Plate form.
Rain Drum set a good pace, he fought the whole way down the straight but justifiably tired late on, a sound effort.
