El Segundo Top Australian In IFHA Rankings
Cox Plate winner El Segundo has been recognized as Australia's highest internationally-rated racehorse above Horse of the Year Miss Andretti and Melbourne Cup winner Efficient following the release of the latest International Federation of Horseracing Authorities rankings.
However the IHFA handicapper's s ratings are again open to ridicule as Takeover Target and Gold Edition were not considered good enough to be rated among the top 50 horses in the world on performances assessed between June 1 and November 25.
El Segundo's win in the W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley earned him a IHFA handicappers rating of 122, placing him equal 18th in the world top 50 on assessed performances from June 1 to November 25.
Miss Andretti, Efficient and Yalumba Stakes winner Maldivian are all rated on 120.
Marasco (119) is the only other Australian horse to make the top 50.
The IFHA assessments are again at odds with Australia's internationally-recognised Timeform ratings, exclusive to Racing and Sports.
Miss Andretti and Marasco share the highest current Australian Timeform rating of 126, one pound above El Segundo, Efficient, Maldivian, Apacha Cat, Gold Edition and Weekend Hussler.
Australian ratings experts will find it hard to accept how Hong Kong star Sacred Kingdom and UK sprinter Benbaun can be given the same 120 rating by the handicappers panel as multiple Group One winner Miss Andretti, an assessment that will be put to the test when the trio meet in the International Sprint at Sha Tin on Sunday.
The now retired Manduro heads the IFHA heads the top 50 list with a rating of 130 following his superb win over Cartier Horse of the Year Dylan Thomas in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
