Plenty Of Options For Single

Randwick trainer Craig Carmody has plenty of options with his stable star Single, following another outstanding win at Rosehill last Saturday.

Carmody Horseform has done a very good job in nursing the four-year-old along and will most likely step Single up to black type company at his next start, as he looks at the slight possibility of a tilt in the Group 1 Doncaster (1600m) to be run at Randwick in April.

“I think it is worth paying the second acceptance fee for the Doncaster but I am not quite sure he is just there yet and they might be a bit too quick for him,” Carmody said.

“I am looking at the Randwick City Stakes over 2000m at Randwick as his next start but we will just have to wait and see how he goes over the next week or so,” he added.

“Failing that there is the Sky Heights over 1900m a week later at Rosehill as a possible option but he would really have to impress me in one of those races if we are to push on to the Doncaster.”

Carmody was delighted with the way Single went on Saturday despite a few nervous moments in the straight.

“I must admit I was a bit anxious when he straightened up and was reluctant to go through that gap but he hit the line very well I thought.”

“Nathan (Berry) rode him very well and said after the race he is still learning but obviously very happy with where he is at.”

“He is a big gangly type and still does a few thing wrong in his races but is coming along very well and is probably around twelve months away still.”

If headed towards the Doncaster, Single would more than likely have to take on boom horses Manawanui and Atlantic Jewel who still remain among the nominations.

Carmody, who only has a stable of around six runners, was unlucky not to have another winner when One Rar was beaten into second placing by the talented Lucripetous at Canterbury last week.

One Rar Horseform who has placed in all five career starts will line up at Kembla Grange this Saturday when stepping up to 2000m for the first time.
