SUPER SURFACE, SUPER IMPOSE, SUPER SATURDAY

Royal Randwick's course proper remains in remarkable condition despite recent rain, with all in readiness for tomorrow's $8 million San Miguel Doncaster-Derby Day – Australia's Richest Race Day.

Little will dampen the spirits of race-goers, with Lonhro leading the charge on the track, a host of support events including the $50,000 Emirates Fashions on the Field, Sophie Monk and David Campbell performing live, plenty of marquees and undercover areas, and the San Miguel Million Dollar Challenge, where punters can win $1 million by picking a triple trifecta.
Super Impose

"We've had 53mm in the last 24 hours (to 10am) and 117mm for the week, but looking at the track you wouldn't know it," said racecourse manager Norm James.

"We're entering unknown territory in a way because we've been in a drought since the new course proper was built. But it is holding up very well and there was no surface water when I inspected it this morning. The track is rated slow at the moment and unless we get some huge deluges I think it will remain that way."

Super Saturday: Super Impose, winner of successive Doncaster Handicaps and Epsom Handicaps in 1990 and 1991, will lead out the field for tomorrow's $2.5 million San Miguel Doncaster Handicap. The gelding will be ridden by Brian York.

Sparkling form: Jockey Craig Carmody has already kicked off his autumn campaign in style. At last night's AJC Easter Derby Ball, Carmody won a $15,000 Percy Marks diamond necklace. He rides Miss Zoe in the San Miguel Doncaster Handicap.
Brian York

Talking Racing: Brian York and Matt Callander will host a guest lounge throughout the day, talking with racing's biggest names including Darren Gauci, Steven King, Greg Childs, Scott Seamer, Craig Carmody and Jim Cassidy.

Scratchings: Gai Waterhouse-trained Excellerator was scratched from the San Miguel Doncaster Handicap yesterday and Planchet was scratched from the $1 million San Miguel Galaxy.

Derby Day Lawn Party: Last chance for your all-inclusive ticket – more than six hours of food and beverage, four bands, celebrities galore, beauty salon, massage marquee, sports lounge, Sophie Monk live and more, all trackside! Book today on www.ajc.org.au or call 9663 8459 today only. No sales at the gate tomorrow.
