Gold Coast Turf Club - 3YO Magic Millions

The rich 1400m contest for three-year-olds has been going for just three years but is proving very popular and an important second big chance for Magic Millions purchased youngsters to chase a huge purse.

Some three-year-olds that may have not matured quick enough to compete in the two-year-old, along with those juvenile runners pursuing another shot at big prizemoney, make up the field.
Ha Ha - 2002 winner

Paradiddle won the inaugural three-year-old event in 2001 for trainer Dean Lawson and rider Brett Prebble from gate fifteen, improving from wide in the midfield up a closer nearing the turn.

Ha Ha won in 2002 for trainer Gai Waterhouse and rider Jim Cassidy, running the fastest time to date of 1:20.38, as favourite from gate five, after racing handy to the turn.

The filly had won the G1 Golden Slipper the previous season and would win the G1 Flight Stakes this season, along with a host of other black type win and place performances as both a two and three-year-old.

The filly beat Empire and Dash For Cash in the Magic Millions for three-year-olds, both future multiple stakes performers.

Empire has won at G2 and G3 to date, while Dash For Cash was a dual G1 and G3 winner and a multiple black type performer.
Dash For Cash

Dash For Cash finished second at G1 four times in a row before being retired to stud.

Interestingly the first two winners of the Magic Millions for three-year-old had both finished fourth in the rich two-year-old event the previous season.

Merhoob finished fourth last year in the two-year-old, if you believe in lightning striking thrice.

Gai Waterhouse made it a double last year, when Biaggio came from gate fourteen and the back to prevail in the hands of Scott Galloway.

Biaggio defeated the useful And Shintaro and Amex, with the latter being G2 placed since.

Prior to his Magic Millions three-year-old win, Biaggio had won both his lead in starts too, defeating promising types such as Octennial and Red Oog in the process.
