The 1000m event is sponsored by Magic Millions and is open to two-year-olds purchased at any Magic Millions sale in the previous 12 months and is worth $200,000 this year.

Only juveniles eligible for the $1 million Magic Millions Classic may start in the Slipper, with the race being the only dedicated Magic Millions qualifying race run in NSW.

The race has quickly achieved its aim of being recognized as a major lead up to the rich two-year-old races on the Australian calendar.

The first running in 2003 was won by the brilliant Not A Single Doubt, trained by Graeme Rogerson, in track record time.

Not A Single Doubt went on to run second to subsequent Golden Slipper Stakes winner Dance Hero in the Gold Coast's Magic Millions Classic.

The Lee Freedman trained Oratorio ran second to Not A Single Doubt in the Magic Millions Slipper and later won the Adelaide Magic Millions Classic.

In 2005 the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel won the Magic Millions Slipper, beating Al Samer.

Snitzel went on to win in Listed company at Doomben before dead heating with Al Samer for third, behind Bradbury's Luck, in the 2005 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.

Al Samer then went to Canberra where he won the Group Three Black Opal Stakes.

Snitzel went on to win the G3 Skyline Stakes at Canterbury and came back this season as a three-year-old to finish third in the G3 San Domenico Stakes before winning the G3 Up and Coming Stakes, both at Randwick.

Snitzel then continued to show brilliance taking on some of Australia's best sprinters early in February/March of 2006 winning the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate from Virage De Fortune and Takeover Target before going down narrowly in the Group One Newmarket Handicap to Australia's International sprinting sensation Takeover Target.

Last year the brilliant Gai Waterhouse-trained speedster Pulator making his race debut in the Slipper gave nothing else a chance scampering over the 1000m of the event in quick time of 55.78 seconds winning by over four lengths.

It was fitting for Australia's first lady of racing to capture this latest juvenile race as she has had a close association with Magic Millions being so successful at the Magic Millions raceday on the Gold Coast in January.

Unfortunately although starting favourite in the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Pulsator failed to reproduce the same brilliance on a very hot afternoon being well beaten.

The 2006 renewal was another triumph for Graeme Rogerson and rider Zac Purton who combined with the speedy filly Illuminates. Appropriately Illuminates was bred by Magic Millions partner Gerry Harvey and offered through the June Magic Millions yearling sale.

Rogerson and Purton have now won two Magic Millions Slippers each, Rogerson previously being successful with Not A Single Doubt and Purton last year with Pulsator.

Illuminates wearing blinkers for the first time led early but Purton allowed her to settle back second behind the leader Obey Orders.

On straightening Illuminates strode to the lead and although Keiki came from back early to make up ground she was never a hope and ran second, beaten one and a half lengths.

Illuminates went on to win the Magic Millions Plate (900m) on the Gold Coast but unfortunately never took her place in the Magic Millions Classic.

Normally held in December, the 2007 renewal, due to EI which ravaged NSW racing in the last part of 2007, the Magic Millions Slipper was re-scheduled to February 2008 but still provided one the major lead up races for the Magic Millions Classic.

The Gai Waterhouse stable provided their second winner of the feature in five runnings when speedy filly She’s Meaner showed too much speed for her rivals before hanging on grimly to score by a neck in the delayed 2007 renewal.

That form proved very reliable for the Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast with She’s Meaner just going down in the Classic to South Australian filly Augusta Proud.

Wyong Race Club is proud to be associated with the Magic Millions company in staging of the richest two-year-old race in NSW in the first half of the season.

"We are proud of the successful relationship we have built with the Magic Millions organisation in making the Slipper such an outstanding success in such a short time," said Wyong Race Club chief executive officer Tony Drew.

The Magic Millions Slipper race day is a gala event and will feature many exciting promotions and features including "Fashions On The Field" promotions and a $100,000 Magic Millions 3YO race.
