The social event of the year on the NSW Central Coast, the 2005 Wyong Gold Cup Carnival, will be staged over two big days on Wednesday August 31 and Thursday September 1.

The carnival has grown over the last decade to be one of the best provincial events in Australia.

It all begins on August 31 with the traditional Ladies Day program, featuring the $75,000 Vinery Stud Mona Lisa Plate for fillies and mares, when all ladies receive free admssion.

Wyong Race Club and Vinery have built up a long and successful association with leading Hunter Valley stud providing valuable services to its leading stallions for the three placegetters.

This year the winner will receive a free service to top class imported stallion Success Express while the placegetters each receives services to Way Of Light.

Apart from great racing, there are plenty of other activities which make Ladies Day so popular,

Fashions on the Field will take centre stage, with fantastic prizes on offer for the Most Elegant Lady, Most Fashionable Hat and Best Dressed Couple.

There will also be the Spring Fashion Parade, the Mona Lisa Plate Sweepstakes Draw for a fantastic accommodation package and for the punters all the last minute mounting yard mail from experts Gary Harley and Chris Scholtz

The prestigious $150,000 Wyong Rugby League Club Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) heads an action packed day on Thursday September 1.

The Wyong Gold Cup has grown in status every year as many have successfully used the race as part of their build up to the major spring staying races in Sydney and Melbourne.

The quality of this year's Wyong Gold Cup field is certain to be boosted by the ballot exempt status to the winners of the Wyong Cup Prelude, Coffs Harbour Cup and Taree Cup.

Also adding to the quality is that winners and placegetters in STC Premier's Cup at Rosehill are not only exempt from ballot and also receive free nomination and acceptance fees for the 2005 Wyong Cup.

The Listed race will again be sponsored by one of the biggest sporting clubs on the Central Coast, the Wyong Rugby League Club.

"Wyong Race Club greatly appreciates the continuation of the tremendous support Wyong Rugby League Club has provided for our feature race," said WRC chairman Rod Wicks.

"The carnival would not be anywhere near as successful without Wyong Rugby League Club and all our associate sponsors, and we thank them for their fantastic support."

The Wyong Cup day program is now a star-studded affair with the feature race supported by two $40,000 races, the Kooindah Waters Springtime Stakes and the Sportsman Magic Mile.

Fashions on the Field is also conducted on Gold Cup Day, with outstanding prizes for the Most Elegant Lady and Most Fashionable Hat.

Presentations for the 2004-05 Wyong Horse of the Year and 2004-2005 Wyong Premiership Awards (Trainer, Jockey and Apprentice) also feature on the day.

Patrons will be entertained by a live band between races throughout the day, and be keep up to date with all the punting information by Gary Harley and Chris Scholtz.

For those who are game, the annual Greg Wynn Undies Derby takes place down the straight after the last race.

It is an event that has to be seen!

In all, the Wyong Gold Cup Carnival offers something for everyone, and is certainly the 2005 social event of the Central Coast
