The biggest racing and social event of the year on the NSW Central Coast, the 2006 Wyong Gold Cup Carnival, will be staged over two days on Wednesday September 6 and Thursday September 7.

The carnival, which has grown over the last decade to be one of the best provincial racing events in Australia, has moved back one week from its traditional dates this year due to a later Sydney spring carnival agenda.

It all begins on September 6 with the traditional Ladies Day program, featuring a new race for fillies and mares, the $60,000 Eagles Plumbing Classic (1350m).

It replaces the $75,000 Vinery Mona Lisa, also for fillies and mares, which has been switched to the club's huge Magic Millions/Strawberry Hill Slipper meeting in December.

Eagles Plumbing is owned by prominent Central Coast businessman Col Keane, a dedicated owner-breeder and strong supporter of the Wyong Race Club.

Apart from great racing, there are plenty of other activities which make Ladies Day a must including glamorous spring fashion parades and the rich Fashions on the Field competition for the best dressed ladies sponsored by the Central Coast's Sun Weekly newspaper.

Fashions on the Field will be judged in two categories - Most Elegant Lady and Most Fashionable Hat - with fantastic prizes for the winners.

The prestigious $130,000 Wyong Rugby League Club Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) heads an action packed day on Thursday September 7.

The Listed race will again be sponsored by one of the biggest sporting clubs on the Central Coast, the Wyong Rugby League Club.

"Wyong Race Club greatly appreciates the continuation of the tremendous support Wyong Rugby League Club has provided for our feature race," said WRC chairman Rod Wicks.

"The carnival would not be anywhere near as successful without Wyong Rugby League Club and all our associate sponsors, and we thank them for their fantastic support."

The Wyong Gold Cup has grown in status every year as many have successfully used the race as part of their build up to the major spring staying races in Sydney and Melbourne.

The quality of this year's Wyong Gold Cup field is certain to be boosted by the ballot exempt status extended to the winners of the Wyong Cup Prelude, Coffs Harbour Cup and Taree Cup.

In all, the Wyong Gold Cup Carnival offers something for everyone, and is certainly the 2006 social event of the Central Coast
