Monday, 30 April 2012: Australian jockey Michael Cahill has terminated his current contract with the Paul Foo Kune stable in Mauritius despite landing his first win of the season at Champs De Mars on April 28.
Cahill rode 17 winners in Mauritius last season but has been frustrated by his lack of success this year. At the first five meetings he had 24 rides for six minor placings.
He broke through at the sixth meeting last Saturday aboard Bottom Dollar, trained by Bertrand de Coriolis for Foo Kune, but had previously had his request for a release from his retainer accepted by the owner.
Cahill took up a contract in Mauritius last year to replace his brother Matthew as retained rider for the Hugues Maigrot stable.
He parted company with Maigrot mid-way through the 2011 season and was hired by stable manager Paul Foo Kune from the 20th meeting.
Having enjoyed some good success for the stable he was offered a new contract this year but has decided to return to Australia due to his lack of early success.
