Friday, 22 June 2012: After a long countdown and anxious moments for some trainers, the final field of 22 runners and barrier positions were announced on Thursday for the R3 million Vodacom Durban July at Greyville on July 7.

July favourite Jackson drew barrier 18 for the 2200m Group One event, and while it is not the barrier his connections were hoping for it is not impossible for the imposing three-year-old to win from such a wide barrier.

In 2003 his sire Dynasty triumphed from barrier 20, despite many deeming it an impossible task for the three-year-old.

Other main contenders to draw outside barriers include second favourite Ilha Bela in barrier 21, Pierre Jourdan in barrier 15 and Tales Of Bravery in barrier 17.

Sean Tarry's three runners book end the field, with Whiteline Fever and Gold Onyx on the rails in barriers one and two respectively, while his other runner Pomodoro drew the extreme outside barrier 22.

The late withdrawal of Vertical Takeoff before the 2011 Durban July prompted a change to the conditions of the race, with the rules now allowing for the selection of two reserve runners.

The reserve runners Bulsara and Seal will replace any horse withdrawn either on or before 12 noon on June 26.
