Monday, 25 June 2012: Despite jockey Tye Angland losing his whip 350m from home, El Zonda responded well to the call of hands and heels and they swooped down the outside to win the Members Cup.
Debutante Fat Choy Hong Kong, formerly known as Tell Dad in the UK, had quite a race. Firstly he reared up on leaving the Parade Ring and finished up with his two front feet on the rails, but passed a vet check. Then he ran well in the race although jockey Mark du Plessis earned the displeasure of the stewards for cutting in a bit quickly at one stage, only to finish second when El Zonda swooped. He was also found to have a cut on his leg after the race. Definitely one for the little black book but maybe that will be next season now.
Less incident prone was Admiration who found a passage up the rails to take third spot from Amigo.
