Monday, 23 July 2012: As her daughter Good Heavens stormed away with the Irish Oaks and her son Nathaniel was a gallant second in the King George at Ascot.
Good Heaves, who like her full brother Nathaniel is by Galileo, stormed away with the Irish Oaks when she eventually found a clear passage, producing an amazing turn of foot considering the conditions and giving jockey William Buick a nice birthday present in the process. She had been supplemented for this race after winning the Lancashire Oaks. The margin over second home Shirocco Star, who was second in the English Oaks as well, was 3 lengths, with Princess HIghway third and Was fourth.
Magnificent Style is an outstanding broodmare. In addition to Good Heavens and Nathaniel, her foal by Sadler's Wells Playful Act was sold to Darley for a world record $10.5 million at a Keeneland Breeding Stock sale. Other black type winners include Echoes in Eternity and Percussionist.
Back to the races - Tannery won the Kilboy Estate Stakes inflicting a first defeat on Caponata but there wasn't a great deal in it and given the heavy going strong finishes were most meritorious. Up ran third.
The Anglesey went without Cristoforo Colombo and it was Grafelli who got the nod from Hard Yards with Count of Limonade third.
