Monday, 6 August 2012: Moonlight Cloud franked Black Caviar's Royal Ascot form when she ran out a very impressive winner of the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday for the second successive year.
Freddie Head's filly, who came so close to becoming the first horse to beat Black Caviar in the G1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, outclassed her rivals in the Deauville sprint, racing clear under Thierry Jarnet to put around three lengths between herself and the chasing pack.
Wizz Kid made late headway to finish second for Robert Collet and Gerald Mosse.
The Cheka, who attempted to make all, officially crossed the line in fourth but he was promoted to third after American Devil was deemed to have caused interference inside the final furlong.
Head was delighted with her win.
"There'll never be another Goldikova but she is exceptional. She adores the track here at Deauville which is very flat,": he said.
"I think Ascot, which climbs at the finish, isn't so much to her advantage.
"She doesn't quite have the same burst of acceleration uphill but today she's done an amazing thing. She's won within herself."
