Monday, 6 August 2012: Galway Week wrapped up on Sunday with Top Man Michael winning the Trappers Inn Handicap.
The going was pretty gluey which could explain why the horses that had tasted success earlier in the week had trouble getting up again this time. Ancient Sands was second and Fanaan Aidaar third.
At Cork where the going was soft to heavy, Dermot Weld's Sapphire won the Give Thanks by 7 1/2 lengths ahead of the O'Brien runner Demurely, who in turn was 2 1/2 lengths ahead of Eternal Bounty. There were some very tired horses at the end of that 2400m race, which was reduced to 7 starters after two were withdrawn including Bible Belt.
