Tuesday, 7 August 2012: Entries for the five Group races on Britain's richest raceday, QIPCO British Champions Day, close tomorrow (Tuesday, August 7).
The £1.3m QIPCO Champion Stakes over 1m 2f, the £1m Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored by QIPCO over one mile, the £250,000 QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes over six furlongs, the £250,000 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes over 1m 4f and the £200,000 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup over two miles make up the five Group races on the £3m raceday at Ascot on Saturday, October 20.
Although only the first two are Group 1 races, the other three entail no penalties and with their level of prize money are effectively Group 1 contests in all but name.
A number of French entries are anticipated and yesterday trainer Robert Collet confirmed that he has already entered his star fillies Immortal Verse and Wizz Kid for the day following their good performances last year.
Immortal Verse, who runs in Sunday's Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville, is entered in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in which she finished third to Frankel last year, while Wizz Kid, who ran second to Moonlight Cloud in yesterday's Prix Maurice De Gheest, is entered in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint in which she finished second to Deacon Blues last year.
