Veteran stayer Red Cadeaux may return to Australia a fifth time for the 2015 Championships in Sydney after next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
Trainer Ed Dunlop told the media at Werribee on Friday morning Red Cadeaux may be back in Australia for The Championships at Randwick next autumn.
“I know how well he does here, he likes the conditions and he loves Werribee,” Dunlop said.
“If we are allowed to do it and the horse is still up to it, I’d love to do it, possibly for the BMW.
“We looked into it last year but we ran in the Dubai World Cup instead. It was an all expenses paid trip to Dubai so it was a no brainer.”
The veteran stayer is having his fourth tilt at Melbourne Cup success and is quoted at $19 for the 3200m staying test with TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds.
“He looks amazing,” Dunlop told Sky Sports Radio.
“We are lucky to have him. I hope he stays safe and well and runs well for everyone.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, the first English horse to come and run in four Melbourne Cups in a row, it is mind boggling.
“He doesn’t look old, his coat looks good and looks very happy going around Werribee.
“He is in very good condition.”
Red Cadeaux has finished runner up in both the 2011 Melbourne Cup to Dunaden and also last year’s renewal behind Fiorente.
Even his efforts in the 2012 Melbourne Cup returned a respectable eighth behind Green Moon before claiming the Hong Kong International Vase (2400m) two starts later.
“It is much more open (this year). The local horse depth is possibly not so deep.
“I have a lot of respect for Cavalryman. He has had a very good time in Europe.
“Also the German horse (Protectionist) who won the Prix Kergolay. He looks to be improving also with an eye catching run his first time here.”
