Racing Victoria Stewards have reported Melbourne Cup hopeful Prince Of Penzance is mildly lame in his off fore.

The Darren Weir-trained gelding was amongst a list of 35 Melbourne Cup hopefuls Racing Victoria Stewards’ will inspect over 24 hours commencing Thursday morning.

Prince Of Penzance is the only runner of concern after vet inspections at Mt Macedon, Ballarat and Werribee.

Stewards reported the Pentire gelding was mildly lame in his off fore.

The five-year-old passed the first ballot clause for the Melbourne Cup last Saturday when taking out the Moonee Valley Cup and also received a 2kg penalty.

30th in the latest Melbourne Cup Order Of Entry, Prince Of Penzance is doubtful to make the final field of 24.

The Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington the following Saturday would be Prince Of Penzance’s next assignment should he not gain a start in the Melbourne Cup.

Stablemate Puissance De Lune won the 2012 renewal of the event.
