2014 Melbourne Cup - Williams To Ride Cavalryman

Craig Williams has been confirmed as the rider of Cavalryman in the Melbourne Cup.

Williams landed the ride after jockey James Doyle was suspended for whip use at Ascot’s Champion’s meeting last Saturday.

Doyle was originally down to partner Willing Foe however his suspension has caused a chain reaction with James McDonald moving from Cavalryman onto the more fancied Godolphin Cup entrant.

It sees Williams jump aboard Cavalryman who is currently quoted at $26 for the Melbourne Cup with TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds.

Cavalryman ran 12th in the 2012 renewal of the Melbourne Cup.

He will be contesting this year’s Melbourne Cup off a break after a strong three start campaign over the European summer where he won twice at Group 2 level before running fourth behind Pale Mimosa in the Lonsdale Cup (3299m).
