Imports To Get First Look At Caulfield

International Caulfield Cup entries Snow Sky and Quest For More will leave quarantine in Werribee today and are set to have their first look at the Caulfield track on Saturday.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Snow Sky and Roger Charlton’s Quest For More were members of the first overseas spring carnival contingent that arrived in Melbourne from Europe two weeks ago.

The pair will be on a familiarisation mission at Caulfield on Saturday morning.

They will be taken around the stalls and mounting yard before taking part in a light canter on the course proper.

The second batch of spring carnival entries from the northern hemisphere will leave quarantine at Newmarket in the UK today for Heathrow.

They will link up with the Aidan O’Brien-trained trio of Highland Reel, Kingfisher and Bondi Beach, who have done their quarantine in Ireland, at Heathrow for the flight to Melbourne, arriving on Saturday.

The group features the Godolphin trio of Secret Number, Sky Hunter and Elhaame, Michael Bell’s leading Melbourne Cup hope Big Orange and the the Qatar Racing-owned Cox Plate entry Arod.

Arod has pleased trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam during his two weeks in quarantine.

“Everything has gone swimmingly,” he reported on Wednesday.

“He worked on Tuesday and went really well. He went into quarantine quite fit, so we haven’t had to do much to keep him that way.”

Another of the contingent Manalapan is to join the Ciaron Maher stable from Dermot Weld in Ireland.

“He does have the ability,” Maher said.

“I think he’s had a few issues so he’s a little bit behind in his preparation but hopefully he can find a bit of form when he’s fit.

“I’m really looking forward to getting him in the stables.

“Providing he travels well, we’ll probably nominate him for the Moonee Valley Cup and have a look at that or the Geelong Cup.”
