Mongolian Khan is in doubt for next week’s Melbourne Cup with the Caulfield Cup winner showing signs of colic.

Racing Victoria stewards made the announcement on Thursday morning after being advised of the development by the Murray Baker stable.

The severity of the colic attack is not yet known with the horse to be assessed again this afternoon.

The TAB suspended its Melbourne Cup market when news of Mongolian Khan’s illness broke but re-opened betting soon after with Mongolian Khan trading at $15 and tagged as a doubtful runner.

Mongolian Khan had been on the third line of TAB all-in betting before his illness.
