Firebirds coach quits Super netball role

3 minute read

Queensland Firebirds coach Megan Anderson has resigned from her position after the team failed to reach the Super Netball finals in her two years in the role.

Coach Megan Anderson says the toll of missing the Super Netball finals the past two seasons has forced her to quit her Queensland Firebirds post.

"Failing to close out our opportunities, falling so bitterly short in the last two seasons has weighed heavily on me," Anderson said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I'm keen to see the girls enjoy championship success. In agreement with Netball Queensland, we've decided that different energy is required to create this success."

Netball Queensland boss Kate Davies said Anderson had shown passion and commitment despite the disappointing results.

"Unfortunately we were unable to come home strongly in the second half of the season, this has had a toll on everybody especially Megan," Davies said.

"As we reflect on what we've achieved and where we want to go it is with sadness that we accept Megan's decision."

The Firebirds finished sixth winning just five of their 14 matches this season.
