Message: how unlucky was naturalism? if luck was on his side would he have been a great? he was unlucky not to win a cox plate (fall), doncaster (Dittman didnt ride) and japan cup(cracked hoof)

Message: Naturalism was also a living certainty beaten in the 91 Victoria Derby behind Star Of The Realm. The Cox Plate ? Who knows, up to the point where Palace Reign fell and brought him and Sydesten down he had enjoyed the run of the race running sixth on the fence. Dittman had just eased Naturalism out to make his run, he was with a group of horses including Sydesten ( he was also coming into the race strongly when he went down ) Lets Elope and Super Impose. Given that SI and LE were the first two past the post you would have to say that Naturalism was certainly going to figure in the finish, especially when you consider that Dittman hadn't even breathed on Naturalism at that point.
Yes, he certainly had more than his fair share of bad luck.

Message: Naturalism was one of the all time overated horses. I loved him. Star of the Realm was one of the clearest specials I have had of all time in the '91 Derby. I could not wait for the day, I declared it to everyone, pre web days of course. And huge odds too for a lay down misere. I have previously told of my big cleanup on Super in the Cox Plate, including Quin and Tri with Lets Elope. What a day. Yes 3 cheers for Naturalism. thanks for the memories. Victorian Racing what a thrill.

Message: Khapper, Let's Elope finished 5th in the Cox Plate after losing a protest - collecting on a SI/LE Quin/Tri seems unlikely. Your ability to even tip in hindsight seems to be failing these days.

Message: Naturalism was one of my favourite horses. The clashes with Veadercross as Autumn 3yos with them running the quinela in the canterbury and rosehill guineas and the AJC derby. They always beat the third horse easily.
It is a real shame what happened in the cox plate. He was travelling so easy just before the fall. He looks to be cruising where all those around him look to be under pressure. He was in such great form that Spring.

Message: lol Khrapper exposed yet again i do believe. Perhaps he'll run off crying for more than a week this time, we can only hope. On the declaring it the derby winner to everyone, no doubt they were a little disappointed to hear the tip 2 hours after the last.

How in the Sunline's Dikkens can you claim Naturalism to be "overrated". Tell me how many Australasian horses we've had that were capable of going within a neck of winning the hardest 2400m race in the world i.e Japan Cup?

Message: After Naturalism won the Rosehill Guineas - beating Veandercross - the press told Mick Dittman how lucky he was to beat Veandercross. Mick agreed. I doubled my bet on Naturalism in the AJC Derby.In racing it pays to learn to read between the lines. In the Derby, Naturalism was again ' lucky ' to beat Veandercross. Very good horse.

Message: It's funny what people remember about the 1992 Cox Plate. People all say that Naturalism was cruising, but consider this. The first half of the race was run in very, very slow time, so it's little wonder. Mick Dittman (and nobody talks about this) got himself into a bit of a bind because he got trapped on the inside and those around him weren't really going into the race. The swoopers, including Let's Elope and Super Impose, had taken off before the fall happened. It was too late for Naturalism to have gotten out and won even had the fall not happened.

Message: the sad thing is if he hadnt had fallen in the 92 cox plate he may have won the year after. The fall seemed to unnerve him whenever he went to MV after. He was in good form leading into the latter CP (winning the caulfield stakes beating The Phantom brothers). Maybe he could have won 2 CP's. Hmm. Who really knows?

Message: Consider this: look at where Naturalism was in the run... he would have ended up right about where Better Loosen Up was - on the inside of Let's Elope who bored in about 6 horses in the straight under pressure. Naturalism likely would have faced the same squeeze that cost Better Loosen Up certain victory...
