Whats the forum opinion on Spikes ? Just because he is Lonhro's brother, is he going to be short every time he goes around ? Ordinary again today.

I believe he was quite unlucky today he should have finished a lot closer then he did as he was held up for a run. I believe he has to be reved up a long way from home to let go with his sprint as he can not quicken straight away but when he does over more ground i can asure you he will be hard to hold out. He does not look far off a win i believe he will be better when he gets over atleast 2000m.

a combination of his pedigree and been trained by hawkes will see him short every time he steps out however, from memory he was placed in a group race

he hasn't placed in a group race, he ran 5th behind outback prince when he started at his longest price - 11/1.

his other runs before today have seen him start at 11/8, 3/1, 6/4 and 1/2, being beaten every time.

i understand he is the bookies' pin up horse.

In my view he was very badly ridden today. Watched it closely. Not positioned well in run, squeezed on straighteneing and checked again in the straight. Todd P. isn't Darren Beadman unfortunately. Doubt John Hawkes would have been happy. I wouldn't sack the horse.

He did not have much luck he missed the start and was held up for a run quite bad but when he got out he abosouletly rocketed home to only be beaten a lenght or so. Would have made up 6 lengths in the last 200m. Should have won easily. Will win next start.

Took a heap of ground off fashfield (who is no mug) in the straight.

Hard to be enthused about the ride.

All things said, should have won this by a wide margin to be considered a ''serious'' racehorse.

This acorn has fallen a good deal further from the tree than Hawkes/Ingham would have hoped.

Still you can't complain about the success they have had with his brothers.

He's a better horse than P. Mertens is a jockey.

Sadly that's saying very little.

Punters backing Pete on $1.70 shots should just give their money to charity - same result and at least they will fee better and gain a tax deduction.

Woody,
You couldnt have watched it that closely. Todd was at a different racecourse!!! He didnt ride the horse champ. However I do agree it was a disgraceful ride. Should be looked into. John Grisedale looked as though he was pulling up an injured horse on the turn. Started riding it when the race was over. Never mind he will never be the horse his big bro was, not many horses will.

My eyes were glued on him today, I'm waiting for the stewards report as I hope they at least ask Greisdale why he didn't/couldn't improve his posy mid-race.
I'm guessing he'll start in a 2000m maiden next start at either Newca/Kembl, start v.short again but may well win by 5len and then could string a few together. An enigma.

Thanks for the race comments. Lucky23, the comment made by Woody was for the previous start in town couple of weeks ago.

I am gunna stay away from putting my hard earned on this one, he will probably show up in a group race somewhere in autumn at nice odds, we will see.
