Message: you are forgetting mr francis's prodgeny, you know i am friends with the family, but i believe california dane did not win his firs start... if we are talking on technicalities, doesnt that mean he's already been beaten?

Message: Yes the mookstas no 1, one came out and smashed the track record at his latest start, the other one ran 2nd last as the $1.50 favourite. I've seen your form on this forum, think you were 2nd last on laminates best bet comp.

Message: Good luck to anyone who wants to have a horse who has never raced out of restricted company against a field of proven group 1 performers and is less than evens.

Message: Enforcer you've got a big mouth for a little man. I see you've already hijacked another post (the underrated gallopers one) still rambling on about Time Matters.
I'd be suprised if California Dane easily beat a field containing 5 group 1 winners. CD reminds me a bit of Secateurs from this time last year. Won 3 small field mediocre races quite easily then stepped up to the big time and was brained.
Don't know why everyone is getting so excited bout CD breaking a track record. Remember Cassimir smashing Northerly's Caulfield 1600m record last year? LOL

Message: I think track records can be very deceptive and to be fair - the win at the Gold Coast by the runner up that night was in restricted company. . . yes Fashions Afiled has exposed form but it's still a restricted race.
I would think there a few horses here that could worry C Dane for the lead and can get home quicker than him - regardless whether they break a record or not.
That said - this is the Valley - and not unlike that Kid who is Dandy - this maybe just his track to excel at . . .
I say stick with the filly myself from QLD but happy to be wrong.

Message: I thik the filly can lead them around the corner and I will be surprised if the first 3 around the croner are not the first 3 home in that same order.

California Dane might well be a superstar of the turf but - time and time again - we see horses stepping up into the big time who just can't handle it. The positive for CD is that he is trained by the master D.L. Freedman - and he wouldn't run him in it if he didn't think he was up to it.
Nonetheless, VDF slayed them at the Valley in similar company on Cox Plate day and even back then, her camp said this race would be next on their agenda. Obviously, everything has gone to plan with her, and at $4.50 she looks a great bet - far better than the $1.70-$1.80 about CD. She does get weight off him too.
Good luck to CD backers, but you'll have your work cut out beating the filly.
