What a performance by the Bangas. Australia could have an interesting time batting on a crumbly pitch. Could the impossible happen? They did it to us in a one dayer, surely not a test match. Just as well Ricky Ponting recanted what he said about their test status. One thing to come out of this is just how pathetic the South Africans are.

Message: No Mr Lister what it does show is how pathetic the standard of world cricket is. Something I have been saying for 5 years here and for 5 years prior to that when the forum was only a dream for the future for many.
What don't people understand about this. How can a side like Bangladesh make over 400 against supposedly the best side in the world. Because the supposed best is not that good, thats why and neither is anybody else by the same token.

Message: Of course Torp you would realise by now the Aussie Test Cricket team of the last decade is the most overated sports team we have proabably ever seen. So any failure won't come as a major surprise. Perhaps we need an all rounder. ROFLMAO.
I reckon we should have a competition for forumites to suggest the best excuses, just in case. The ones we normally hear are usually pretty lame.

Message: The pitch was that bad ..lol..that the last 5 Bangladesh wickets put on over 70 on the 2nd day and then a few hours later the Aussies were 5-79. All of a sudden when the Aussies batted it was a minefield. Would not be the fault of the Aussie batting by any chance.
And how about the sooky tantrum thrown by one of openers when dismissed. Don't cry fella their are kids watching.

Is there anyone else who reads this posting, whose extreme joy each day, is to find an Australian team or individual, which/who has tried their absolute best, represented their country, but perhaps fallen short?
Then to tell the world about it.
Achieves absolutely nothing. A total wasted effort if ever there was one. (a bit like my posting here)
Here on R&S, currently Khrapper has a posting about the under-performing Aussie golfers and this one about the cricket.
Can someone please point me in the direction of Khrapper's posting about our Commonwealth Games effort and his congratulations to the cricketers on their great success in South Africa?
I've searched dozens of postings, cannot find either. Have to be archived here somewhere. Wouldn't it?

We have been completely out-played.
Bangladesh have had everything to play for, and we have not. Like a lot of teams before them, they have boxed above their weight when the champions came to town.
Scheduling this tour immediately after a South African tour is crazy, but hey, welcome to the world wide cricket circus. The players are professionals - and that is now part of their lot in life. They want to be better paid - and this is how their employers manage that.
But you can't take anything away from the Nafees kiddy, who batted superbly for a big ton.
Hats off.
He wasn't intimidated by Warne or anyone else. Their other batsmen went alright also against a high quality leg-spinner who took eightfer!
Our batsmen have struggled on a wicket that by any objective stretch could not be considered entirely suitable for test match cricket. They they have not delivered. But, Bangladesh won the toss and their batsmen showed how to cash in extrememely well.
This match is headed for this history books.
Whatmore could you ask for.
(Speaking of Dav, the sadly over-used term of "Supercoach" may now well be very valid for this man if his teams wins here, on top of his efforts in taking Sri Lanka to a World Cup victory).
It will be a great result for world cricket if Bangladesh can apply the final blow. The ongoing massive support of the sub-continent is vital for the future health of the game.
This is a country of almost 150 million people. They have massive potential to be at least as competitive on the world stage as India have been. Only 35 years ago they were completely devestated by probably the worst cyclone in recorded history and lost a million of their people.
Only eight years ago 60% of the country was under water and a big chunk (two million tonnes)of their annual rice crop was destroyed by massive flooding in the Ganges Delta.
Think about that the next time you miss the bus.
They know how to fight a bit.
The Australians have shown them great respect by sending a full strength squad to play them, unlike some other teams that have toured there in recent times.
If Bangladesh get over the line here they will know that they have absolutely deserved it - and we'll know that they deserve our congratulations and admiration.
Whether or not this is the end of the line for the Australian reign at the top is not going to be definitely answered here.

Message: Can't agree with those who want to blame the pitch for the Aussies performance here.
The bounce has been low and slow, but it has been consistent and predictable. Certainly not the sort of pitch a quality Test side should get dismissed cheaply on.
It's also worth noting that all the first 5 wickets were bowled or LBW, the Aussies haven't been dismissed through wild shots. They have copped some good bowling and just haven't been mentally up to it on the day (9 hours in the field will do that to an unprepared team in hot, humid conditions).
The real revelation for me has been that their quicks have hit the keepers gloves harder than any of the Australian bowlers could.
No doubt we have not come into the match mentally switched on or adequately prepared, but that's no excuse. We've just been outplayed so far.
Some interesting individual performances. Our new head of selectors will certainly have a bit to ponder over.
Our returning bowlers MacGill and Gillespie both performed extremely well and will be difficult to leave out in the future, however Clarke's failure will be a sore disappointment.
With Symonds' selection proving unsuccessful, and Hussey being required to open, our middle order appears to be in disarray. Warne at 7 does not seem a long term solution.
Amazing that a guy who got his chance in the middle order over the summer and made over 400 runs at 58 is deemed not good enough. Hmmm.

Very good post and highly productive unlike some that come on and talk about cricket.
If Bangladesh can get a piece of the huge money pie that belongs in the Asian countries, they will be a big force in world cricket within the next 20 years. I'm not sure if it is possible but they are on par with India as cricket nuts!
In my opinion, the Aussies do look as though they would rather be somewhere else but as has been said, at least we sent a full strength team. Other from that, there are no real excuses, we have been outplayed by a team which is showing a lot more passion than we are currently.

In racing parlance, the Aussies are what's known as 'over the top' - nearly 10 months solid cricket will do that to anyone. I don't really care what happens in this test, I am extremely proud of the way we have played since the Ashes loss. In what is clearly not as talented a team as a couple of years ago, we have shown tremendous spirit when it would have been easy to have simply said 'we're on the downhil slide/in a rebuilding phase' or the likes - Instead we have played 10 tests for 9 wins (count 'em and weep Khrapper!).
And, Khrap you are wrong on another count - for about 5 years, when S Waugh was captain, we were one of the greatest sides ever - simple as that. That's why even an American institution rated us as the best team in the world IN ANY SPORT!! To suggest we have been overrated for 10 years just shows your total ignorance of all things cricket (makes it the quartet with horseracing, football and Olympics!!)

Now for all of us so called astute punters out there. We all like to think we know value when we see it. Hoiw many of have EVER seen $18 offered about a side who have 400+ runs on the board at the end of the first innings just after lunch on day 2? And yes I took a little of it (just a speculatory $10) given how complacent our bowling seemed and given that we had only 5 specialist batsman and an out of form Gilly. Now that same Gilly is all that stands between the Bangers and an improbable victory.
The pitch is not good - but hey this is the sub continent - you expect tough conditions. Several of our batsmen (the skipper and Mr Cricket excluded from this assessment) have been in the past flat track bullies.
The depth of bowling around the world IMO has not been great over the past 7-8 years and when we finally met a quality attack in England certain individuals were found wanting. The same here. Now they have to stand up in the second innings and all play to the standard set by Ponting when he saved the 3rd test in England.
Poor programming - yes, as it was in England but lets not offer that as an excuse. Lets see what the best team in the world is really made of?

Message: Wonder how the Aussies rated the pitch before the match? 3 quickies and 2 spinners, therefore a batsman short; Wouldn't a crumbling wicket, prone to unpredictable bounce (or lack thereof) be pretty much perfectly suited to Symonds bowling, offies or medium? And an extra batsman sure would be handy right about now. Perhaps the selectors thought no form could be read into any potential Symonds performance against the supposedly lowly Bangaldesh. Why is Gillespie in the team again? Does this make any sense to anyone else...
