Morning all,

Publishings win yesterday was against an ordinary field but it was in open class and he ran very good time in quite an easy fashion. He will definitely start favourite.

cheers.

the only query with publishing is beaten ordinary fields but the wins have been soft and looks like he could even challange for fav in this race

Gold Edition..

3 starts over the 1400m - 3 losses..

Suggests to me that she doesnt run out the 1400m as strong as she does the 1200m..

I wouldnt dismiss her as winning a race over the 1400m sometime, but I would completely dismiss her winning a race over the 1400m against Marasco, Haradasun - or even Miss Finland..

"Greed has ruined many good horses"

What a profound revelation from Count Plod Chops. Greed has also ruined many good threads. Instead of politely acknowledging that my Deep Imact post was spot on the money, you proceeded to show your true colours by attempting to hog the thread and make a complete fool of yourself in the process.

I'm reluctant to show my hand, but I don't think anybody is on the right track here.

I backed Sequential Charm (at $44 on Betfair) and laid Gold Edition (at $1.50 on Betfair).

She didnt lose me yesterday, she won me. And I'll be on her, warts and all, in a fortnight.

Cheers and a happy new year to all,

Gary

Re: Gold Edition

Anyone who saw this race could not be too harsh on her (unless you took the tomato sauce).

Her pilot made a crucial error handing up the lead so easily and she ended up stuck on the fence behind the leaders after they dropped anchor.

She then raced ungenerously and had trouble attaining a run.

Whilst the jury is out wether she is genuine past 1200m I would not jump to a conclusion based on this effort.

Countchivas - I hope you are not giving out that you know more about how Gold Edition should be campaigned than her trainer. I thought that was a no-no in your book.

I dont count that as a race.

I count that as a roast.

Gold Edition does not like to cook.

Loved the cool Melbourne air and when she gets some of the colder temps she will fly again.

I think the legend of Gold Edition has been blown way out of proportion by those two appalling Flemington races she won. I'm amazed anyone takes her seriously at the top level.

I actually think Gold Edition benefits from constant racing. When her races are spaced she throws up some inconsistent results. It is the only explanation i can find for her defeat to Reihgning To Win in the Roman Consul in Sydney over the spring. In that race the first 600m -with GE out in front- was run in 36.21s and the last 600m in 34.53. Looking at those splits, she was able to control the race but still could not repel the finishing burst of the winner. That race was her first in over a month and she had only had a barrier trial to freshen her up, as was the case leading in to yesterday's defeat.

Morning all,

1400m is clearly not her go. She aint no Schillaci or Campaign King that's for sure. A brilliant short course sprinter who should be in the spelling from the spring waiting for a big Autumn or winter in Brisbane.

cheers.

The TJ Smith medal is for treating 'em mean, and keeping 'em keen, by running them at every carnival going.

Many have tried, but they are awfully hard to win.

GE should be out in the spelling paddock after her brilliant Melbourne campaign.

While she is a great filly i dont think she is suited to anything beyond 1200mtrs at this stage of her career.

GE is just a different horse going around a corner.

1400m is not the issue.

nominate the trainer for the running a horse into the ground year award

yes agree how tough is the horse winning big races in 3 states but fair dinkum will they ever spell the thing they will start it in magic millions but surely that night they have to send for a good spell .......if they go down to melbourne or sydney without a good break they are kidding

yes people will say the trainer knows best but 1.35 fav 52.5kg 1350 wfa was disappointing today maybe running it in races like last start with 61 kg has flattened it when it needs a spell

20th start today i doubt there would be any 3 yo in australia at the moment who would have had 20 starts

people say miss finland has ran in everything the oaks win was her 12th start

If Gold Edition can turn up for this race in peak condition, and win it, I will nominate her trainer for Australian of the Year.

Or at the very least, the TJ Smith medal.

Lynch was sacked for his slaughtering.

He did it in the Slipper and did it again in the Golden Rose. It was the same thing Gauch did to El Segundo in the Yalumba. Going around the field is never a good option, most of the time you will run out of steam even if you do have the best horse.
