Message: I've just been watching Ken Callender on TVN this morning and i'm disgusted about his comments in regards to David Hayes and his inference that his 2 slipper horses, the winner Miss Finland and Churchill Downs, under performed at their recent starts. Ken urgently needs to get over his extreme Sydney bias and come to grips with the fact that Melbourne horses and trainers may occasionally be better than the Sydney opposition. He has to accept that he now broadcasts to a national audience and his bias is very obvious. If you take a close look at Miss Finland's last run it was outstanding at her first go in Sydney, nothing on the day came from behind and she made up may lengths, and the form from the race has been made to look good. I think may be Ken has had his day and let's look to younger more professional unbiased people to do the job.

Message: Yeah Woody, did get a Perth treble, cost $6, abt 2 weeks ago { half of $1,060 } using some new neural settings with a combination of a setting you told me once, for Perth only. My dad is heading your way this weekend competing at AIS for the Australian championships for running. He is expecting to win too, distances of 1500, 5000 and 10,000m.

Message: Cannot stand listening to KC as soon as a melb horse is first past the post he is quick to find a syd horse behind it and concentrate on its run and hard luck story taking away from the winner of the race. If a melb horse fails unexpectedly he is the first to knock it as a dud. We cannot have this sort of thing going on to a national audience it is an absolute disgrace. I think both Steve Moran and Bruce Clark are doing a magnificent job in their new roles and have got a lot of time for these two blokes.

Message: I am amazed that some of you are defending KenC.
The key point and criticism is his anti Melbourne bias. I find myself as a Sydney resident who has lived in all States in Australia embarrassed by his constant one-eyed, thoughtless comments that he spews out weekly in the Daily Telegraph!
Does he honestly think that jockeys A / B / C are better, or that horses A / B / C are better because they "are from Sydney"
Get over it!!!
It is his inbred NSW vs QLD State of Origin mindset that has no place in racing.
Message: My point is that he has to realise he is now broadcasting to a national audience, and informed people, and his attitude towards anything other than Sydney is terrible. People are getting sick and tired of the extreme bias and it shows very clearly when an interstate horse wins any race in Sydney.

Message: There's a lot of anti-Ken people out there, has been for years.
But I sort of like him - and his big boy.
Whatever you say, they got personality and they have an opinion. There's a lot of blokes on racing radio and TVN/Sky who are pie eaters (figuratively, as opposed to Richard - literally!) - who are basically a waste of space.
Watched Ken's big son Rich this arvo, as he took us through a one-meeting-day (Mildura) on TVN. He was excellent, I got to say. No tomato sauce stains down the shirt, either.
He was on the ball, had energy that defied his kilo rating, as well as enthusiaism - and had done his home work (well briefed).

Message: i agree mandrake. i'm not so much defending what he said, but his right to say it.
there are a lot of commentators in sport (particularly on commercial channels) who are rarely critical. they are not allowed to upset their viewers for fear they will switch channels. at least callendar is prepared to go against the grain, even if it does sound like sour grapes.
Williams gave a very sound explanation to the stewards for the reisling run and the fact she was back on top of the ground with the blinkers gave enough reasons for a punters to back her on saturday. But there will always be those who are never satisfied. perhaps Kenny in this case.

Message: Da G Show, with all due repect to you and your defence of A1 mug tipstar, the mugs that took the odds of Miss F in the Reisling, its first attempt at the Syd way of going and a slow track to boot, shouldn't be punting. It was not value.

Message: Callender rarely says anything where you sit up and listen. It shows you how out of touch the racing administrators are with their core group of racing followers. And Kenny is unlikely to attract any new blood to the game. The 1980's are over folks.

Message: Going back a few years ago, i was in Darwin for the carnival. At that stage Australian racing was covered in the NT by a TAB radio which was locally based.
Whilst listening for the 4 weeks i was there i heard one of the best talents i have heard anywhere, his name was Tim Carol. I remember his name because i meant to enquire with my contacts at 4TAB as to who he was and why he wasnt in the main stream. I remember in particular one day he did the late mail for a 8 race programme, tipped 6 winners and 2 place getters and one of those was 33/1. He also was the on air announcer in the afternoons whilst the racing was on, cool as a cucumber and obviously new the game.
But havent heard of him since, i presume he liked the laid back Dariwn lifestyle to much to move.

Message: Ryan Phelan is one of the best young talents. He "was released" by Sky Channel and hasn't looked back since joining TEN. Stephen Hewlett at Radio TAB is also a good young talent that with a bit of work on him could improve out of sight. Bruce Clark does a good job, Simon Marshall is extremely talented as he knows things from the point of view of a jockey. Matthew Browning is another that if someone took him under their wing could improve out of sight. He's just a bit too stiff at present and needs to relax a bit more.

Message: i want to be the last person on the planet to defend K Callendar, but..i think you guys miss his point.
he was saying what about the punters who took the $2.3 in the reisling. IT WAS an enormous run but she was never put in a position to win the race. he was trying to say that it looked like they were giving her an easy time between G1 runs.
now to slam Kenny & Richie! these two guys keep coming up with the same tips race after race - therefore one of them is superfluous, so at least one, but preferably both, has to go!!
