Gee, I've warmed to Denman during the week. So glad Linton and the Moodie horse are in the race. Might get $1.70. If that isn't the best bet of the carnival what is.

I agree Infidel.

In the form he was in last October/November, a fresh All Silent would be something to bet on in a July Cup.

so its nothing to do with it being a stiffer stamina test..

must be just tiredness as you have genetic freak horses compared to everyone else in the world..

oh yeah pink we all eat tomato and cucumber sandwiches..yum..~

starspangleds one of the best wfa G1 horses in australia will win G1 sprints in the uk..
fairly uncompetitive division.

Shame someone in australia doesnt have the money to buy our best wfa G1 horses like sea the stars/rip van winkle/henrythenavigator/goldikova/ravens pass /zarkava etc as youd be spluttering into your vb's as they whizz by..instead you get to see the rejects.

I don't think it's a coincidence that all the Aussie July Cup flops have come after they have run at Ascot, often after doing the silly 4 days between first up and second up Ascot double.

Your fellow cucumber and tomato sandwich heads will know the name STARSPANGLEDBANNER soon enough.

Turns out Denman was not the soundest horse in the world.

Given his demolition jobs the 2 starts prior it did look that way.

Linton is at least twice the racehorse.

He will be better over longer and already has a better turn of foot.

This is our great grey hope.

You certainly are a sh!t stirrer.

if denman really is the horse peter snowden raves about, I would expect that the tough uphill section of the july cup, which has proven too tough for all aussie sprinters to date, will suit denman far better than previous contenders.

i dont rate our sprinters at all..

we breed for milers upwards..

paco boy was 2nd fave for the july cup 2009 and hes a miler..

saying that there will always be 2 or 3 decent ones to beat..

Denman has the ability, no doubt about that- he has alreay achieved far more than many UK sprinters in a short career. The question will be how he travels and settles in to his new surroundings.

is denman better than:

Scenic blast/Takeover Target/Choisir

as they all were defeated in the july cup by pommie horses?

any thoughts?

Find a pommy to give me 20/1 the notorious pretender Denman in the July Cup and I will take it, heh, heh, he, ho, ho, ho. Perfect race for him. He will bolt in!

Yes - I left myself stranded there.

I have witten "Learn the art of effective segue" 100 times on the board.

I was of course referring to the local Carnival - regarding that heady mix of long odds on favourites, dubious starts and quaddie legs.

Cheers...Eastside

Infy, got a feeling that ES was referring to the Cox Plate of 2002 and the "uloseable" Cox Plate of 2003. Throw in the 2002 Doncaster and the QE Stks to boot...

Having said that, Denman has a long way to go to be compared to his dad...

"Minor premierships are easy - but Grand Finals are another thing all together."

Is the Caulfield Guineas a minor premiership and the Australian Guineas the grand final? Didn't Lonhro win the Caulfield Guineas in the highest rated Caulfield Guineas win of the last 30 years?
