Message: I´m trying to think of a nice to way to say this, and I know it has been discussed before, but surely Richie Callandar is just a part of racing coverage for comic value?
I remember hearing him talking on radio TAB about how trainers and jockeys consult him about his "expert speed maps", but week in, week out he gives terrible tips, usually the fave or 2nd fave in every race. I can´t recall him ever having a winning day.
I heard his best bet was Beneteau all up Denman on the weekend - (1.50 & 1.60). We all have shockers, but this happens on a consistent basis. He says frequently that he has "found something" which is inevitably very short and often loses.
Come on, is the guy for real an expert? I feel sorry for the people who take his opinions seriously.

Message: No worries Timesman. I must admit i mucked up on Alverta, thought i would get clever and stand it out in trifectas and missed the second horse instead of just backing it straight out.

Message: Well Timesman i have decided to back all of Shean's tips this month, his specials on race day and tips on the thursday form program as well. He stands at 26 tips for 12 winners including Alverta at 20's and Count Encosta at 14.50 best tote . If you only have backed his early mail specials on race day, 9 winners from 18 tips. That will do me fine, no wonder he was a pro punter. Hope he keeps it up it is paying my bills!

Message: You have to admire big Richie's passion for the industry - wears his heart on his sleeve particularly when it's about the punters (naturally). As far as his tipping goes, he's helped get me out on a swag of occasions so he gets the thumbs up from me.
I'm looking forward to his 55m dash at the Valley tomorrow night. The big fella looks well placed under the handicap conditions.

Message: Think you are being a bit hard on Ritchie,
have a look at "our" efforts in the Century Club and Forum Open. Tipping winners consistently is bloody hard. Im sure Ritchie does not bet in every race, but given his role with TVN or any media "expert", he has to make a selection in every race. As for your reference to Denman all up Beneteau, my quick recollection of the comps on here would suggest thats the way most of the populace went....
Tony Brassell (is this SG in cognito) is a freak and really the only "form expert" i pay heed to, what you see is what you get with Ritchie, if you dont like him go suffer Freedman or Browning on Sky.
Message: Thanks Timesman, I was wondering what that big chunk of land on the map was but now I know. It's America. My point was while one is unbearably "your friend and down to earth bloke" and the other bunch are unbearably cool and oh so upmarket in the end the result is much the same. Though admittedly neither of them are the worst, in some other cases the mute button is not enough, I actually switch off the telly for a few minutes lest my iq not suffer just by watching at them.

Message: Another tip,
If Richie or any race caller or commentator were able to consistently select winners, they wouldn't be calling or commentating.
Reality is that selecting one winner is fine, but consistently selecting winnners sort the sheep from the goats.
Any person who invests $1 based on a racecallers/commentator/media persons thoughts, need to be tied up, fed a strict diet and whipped until they promise not to do it again.
Message: Interesting to compare R Callandar with the few commentators that are supposed to help us with Hong Kong racing coverage, they sound so articulate and speak with a calm authority (hence quite opposite to Callandar) but I have a suspicion actually following what they are saying would be an exercise in futility.

Message: Agree Oli. He is a funny guy for sure. I was just watching a replay of Racing Review and they mentioned that a favourite that failed (name excapes me) had come back bleeding from one nostril. Quick as a flash Callendar says "there were plenty of punters who came back bleeding from both".

Message: BIt Player, There have been two rounds in the NRL. Souths led the comp after 5 or 6 rounds last year and lost about 8 straight, Cronulla led the comp at half way the year before and missed the semi's. Parramatta were looking like wooden spooners at the half way mark yet made the Grand Final. Going off early mate.
