Message: kerrin mcevoy rubbed out for a month for a bad ride. what a joke.
from what i have heard he hasnt been accused of pulling it, just not giving it every chance.
he rode the horse perfectly but got boxed in when jim cassidy came up on his outside at the 600m. he couldnt get a run until late and finished an unlucky 3rd.
how many times does this happen??? just about every race something will be boxed in and be unlucky.
i am by no means a mcevoy fan but its clear to me he was simply unlucky. he rode the horse a treat but just got boxed in at a crucial point.
for the stewards to say he should have come 3 wide at the 600m is a bit of a joke. how many times do you see a horse get beaten when they are taken wide too early and hit the front too soon.
the excuse we always hear when something like this happens is "the stewards are just trying to protect the punters".
well if they are so concerned about the punters why wasn't a trainer given a months suspension for telling punters a horse would win on saturday??
or when a horse is favourite but its fitness gives out and it loses, should we be suspending trainers for not having the horse fit enough and not giving it every chance to win???
if a jockey pulls a horse or puts in a obviously incompetent ride then yes rub them out. but for bad luck?? come on.
p.s the stewards who upheld the planchet vs choisir protest at flemington should have got 10 years.
Message: Think this poem by Banjo Paterson relates to many of you guys!
There's some that ride the Robbo style, and bump at every stride; While others sit a long way back, to get a longer ride. There's some that ride like sailors do, with legs and arms, and teeth; And some ride on the horse's neck, and some ride underneath. But all the finest horsemen out -- the men to Beat the Band -- You'll find amongst the crowd that ride their races in the Stand. They'll say "He had the race in hand, and lost it in the straight." They'll show how McEvoy came too soon, and Bowman came too late. They'll say Robl lost his nerve, and Brown lost his head; They'll tell how one was "livened up" and something else was "dead" -- In fact, the race was never run on sea, or sky, or land, But what you'd get it better done by riders in the Stand. The rule holds good in everything in life's uncertain fight; You'll find the winner can't go wrong, the loser can't go right. You ride a slashing race, and lose -- by one and all you're banned! Ride like a bag of flour, and win -- they'll cheer you in the Stand.
Message: A bunch of armchair morals over the weekend can't hurt his confidence, hopefully he can keep his winning form rolling. And i'm grateful he didn't knock about Pinwheel on the weekend - that horse is going to win me a lot of money this prep.
U should watch that again. Sober. Or are you talking thruyakik?
Bowman switched course (were there ghosts on the inside rail?) rode into the pocket and then had to put the whip away. It was woeful for a jockey of his stature.
Anyway, I don't want Hugh or anyone outed and losing their pay for a month. Just trying to point out an injustice to K Mcevoy. I think it's a poor interpretation of the 135B rule.
If Mcevoy's riding needs shaping up that's a seperate issue which should be addressed. I, like some others have noticed that he often misses the start.

Message: McIvoy then squared up by hopelessly missing the start on Neroli. A habit that seems to be the norm these days in almost every race in Sydney.

Message: Hmm thought so, Hugh Bowman's ride was worse on Rareified, cost him the race This is all the stewards had to say after Hughie steered Rarefied into a poket, held their by none other than K Mcevoy-
Over the final 50m Rarefied was unable to be fully tested when held up on the back of Neeson.

Message: If McEvoy does end up back in London it wont be with Godolphin- he didnt want to go back to Oz in the first place- he was told he had to. Godolphin are now set up with two trainers and Frankie as number 1, Atjebi as 2, Durcan 3.
Message: Agree with the Aichi reference, that was perhaps the worst of a very bad list of bad McKevoy rides... Found trouble in four horses on the flat side.
Thought the penalty was extremely harsh however maybe the stewards have just had enough as previously suggested.
Message: Look anyone defending McEvoy clearly doesn't follow racing closely. Aichi , straight race, only 5 horses go to the flat side and McEvoy gets pocketed. There are only four others with the vastness of the Flemington straight and he is pocketed. Thats it full time, all over , no need for further deliberation. That is a ticket on Emirates to London surely.
Message: McEvoy rides the occasional bad race but I think he and Arnold are the best riders of stayers in the country (you only have to check KMs Melb Cup record for proof of that).
If you want to see a bad ride, watch a replay of last years Slipper. Beadman on More Joyous, probably the worst ride ive seen on a well fancied runner in a big race.
