I see that the number of posts on this forum is way down on previous years regarding this weeks Slipper.

It probably reflects the interest in the thing. Are we finally seeing some good judgement and intelligence from our forum friends. Maybe we will finally see a justified declined interest in the Cox Plate, rather than an out of control, hyped up, over reacting mob carrying on about an overated horse race, amongst overated horses. So You Think I am wrong, well have a look at last years field for an example.

Back to the Slipper, I believe that apparently the STC are not significantly promoting it as a race day. Apparently it is being promoted as a day for Under 30's. Like get on the grog, flirt with the opposite sex, maybe even the same sex, being Sydney, and basically almost anything but the races themselves. If you attend you maybe will even get to hear that horrible anthem again, albeit recent renditions of it at Rosehill have been good.

So young folk, booze up on Saturday and don't bother with a form guide or racebook, just your mobile phone in one hand and grog in the other. I can tell you the Slipper will be a rather pathetic field, and this is not surprising given the quality of our racing and horse flesh in this country. What is surprising is that almost 20,000 foals were born in Aus last year and they are running for millions. Yes amazing as it might sound.

No horse born last year has run for even a single cent yet Khrapper. No wonder you're a complete racing dunce if you think there are races for weanlings.

Pretty obvious the only one out of his depth is you. That point is hammered hone every time you open your trap.

There is the problem MD. Managements lack of ability to promote the product.

I agree with Intergaze - the BMW should be the Autumn WFA Oz Championship and be on a par with the Cox Plate. Maybe any horse that wins both in the one season could get a bonus?

I was in Sydney yesterday for business and couldn't believe my eyes - on the back of the bog doors at the airport was advertising for the MELBOURNE autumn racing carnival. Geez, with all the hype over gay parades and the like Sydney has, you would think the AJC/STC would be all over Sydney's autumn carnival and promoting it to the shizenhausen!

Rosehill - Easter Saturday.

Let me remind you of the topic and let me remind Camel he is out of his depth on this forum. Horses born last year and every year in the last dozen or so and maybe the next 50 until racing disappears, are running for millions. It doesn't matter what year in our era they were born they are running for millions, Camel.

And what a shame they are. Easter Saturday will it seems = a disgrace. The track will be heavy, it may be raining, the Anthem will be heard and the grog and the music will be promoted again, above the racing.

Regarding the track and the racing, I reckon the great man Phil, on another website, summed it up best.

Another option is to make the Queen Elizabeth the WFA centre piece of the autumn and boost it to $2M.

If you jacked the prizemoeny up to $10 million, Lord Williams of Toorak may send one of his across the Murray ... but probably not.

I concur with your last point Infidel.

Tancred prizemoney is fine. But the Slipper prizemoney should be cut & allocated to more boosting the Ryder and/or spread across other STC carnival races.

If you doubled the BMW prizemoney you would get exactly the same field.

The most illogical thing i have heard all week was the STC confirming they want to stick with Easter Sat as their date to run the Golden Slipper.
As soon as this was announced i heard an interesting stat. Over the last 150-odd years of recorded weather patterns it has rained something like 110 times on Easter Sat.
(raining all wk and expected to continue)

Would the title, Richest 2Y/O Race in the world have anything to do with it's value as a world wide advertisement.?
It is a lottery , always has been and the fact they are 2 year olds with few runs under thier belts may be the reason so many don't go much further.
If you take any group of gallopers , at any age , you can list so many who fall by the wayside. The fragile nature of the beast under great physical pressures.
Where is So you Think, ? Efficient, etc.

Chivas - had it not been for the Sipper, those horses you mentioned (leave Phelan Ready out of it for the moment) probably still wouldn't have won as older horses and retired unknown.

"When I say great winner re Occy I mean beyond his Slipper fourth".

That clears it up beautifully.

He actually ran second in the 1995 Slipper - beaten a neck by Flying Spur.

Ergo, Lonhro was the best Cox Plate winner of all time because he won everything else.

(Well, I do love to snipe).

More than 50% of Golden Slipper winners since 1995 never won another race after their 2 year old season, they include, Phelan Ready, Sebring, Stratum, Polar Success, Calaway Gal, Catbird, Prowl & Merlene.

Race 'em - Wreck 'em - Retire 'em, that's what modern 2 year old racing is all about.

There is no way the slipper is my favourite race as some have suggested for themselves. It is over-hyped, over-rated, but hey thats sydney racing in a nutshell. Ouch can't wait for the comments. In my mind, the race that is the most exciting and best race of the year is the cox plate and if anything should be the most valuable race outside the MC it should be that.
