Message: With the release of TAB's all-in opening market last week on the race that stops a nation (and my heart most years) I thought it would be a good idea to start her up and keep the ball bouncing with relevant info and forumites opinions & thoughts through to November 6th.
First up is the two new BC3 recruits: Sanagas (USA) trained by Bart Cummings 11 starts 7 wins

I have little to no idea of what he is beating in these. But the same could be said for Lucas Cranach last season in Germany.
His 2nd win is clearly the best at Hollywood Park. This is the race Bart keeps referring to. It is a Group 1 race. Sat deep the trip. Took off with 600m to go and bolted up.
Val Champ (ARG) Trained by Anthony Freedman 10 starts - I think 2 wins (shares still available!)
I never thought I'd be watching races from Argentina to help me sort the Melbourne Cup winner out. The times are a changin. Horses seems to be wearing pink and grey colours. The caller ain't helping any of us out here. Can this be translated by an Argentinian member?

This seems to be the Argentinian Derby.

Cup Contenders Out Of Quarantine

International stayers Sanagas and Val Champ will start their Melbourne Cup campaigns this week with Bart Cummings and Anthony Freedman respectively after being released from quarantine in Sydney.
Both horses, bought by BC3 Thoroughbreds, have been at the Eastern Creek facility for two weeks and were due to leave the centre on Sunday.
BC3 Thoroughbreds chief executive Bill Vlahos said the company's equine expert John Brocklebank had accompanied both horses to Australia and had reported they had travelled well and put on weight.
"Bart and Anthony have had them on their feed programs and both horses are in good shape," Vlahos said.
Sanagas will be assessed at Cumming's Princes Farm before being transferred to his Saintly Place stables at Flemington as early as Monday.
Val Champ was scheduled to be transferred directly to Freedman's Rye stables in Victoria.
Val Champ is $26 in TAB Sportsbet's opening Melbourne Cup market while Sanagas is $35.
Vlahos said while all shares in Sanagas had been sold there were still opportunities available in Val Champ for prospective owners.
An Argentinian stayer, Val Champ is a three-year-old son of 2001 Breeders Cup Mile winner Val Royal and has passed the ballot for the Melbourne Cup for the next two years.
His Melbourne Cup lead up will be either the Caulfield Cup or the Cox Plate.
Val Champ has raced 10 times for a maiden victory over 2000 metres by 10 lengths and a Group Two Eduardo Casey (2200m) triumph.
He lost the Group One Nacional Stake (2500m) on protest before finishing a close-up fourth against older horses in arguably South America's most prestigious race, the Group One Carlos Pellegrini (2400m).
Six-year-old Sanagas is an exciting American import who has won seven of his 11 starts.
He was a dominant 3-1/4-length winner of the Group One Hollywood Turf Cup (2400m) last November.
Cummings has watched a replay of the win and was impressed with the acceleration Sanagas showed after racing wide without cover.
Message: While I really have no real fancy as the imports set the standard and many are untested, I think I will settle on the locals, Lights of Heaven, Kellini and Mourayan BUT I will not be betting early and my change depending on betting trends and the state of the track.

Message: "BB & SG, it's well and good that you think he can make it but there could be several entries jump over him with qualifying races that are yet to be run.
A long way to come if you end up being no 25."
Looks as though my post was somewhat prophetic and BTW BB, how is my homework looking.

Message: Its incredible. There has been very little attrition rate this year. It's looking unlikely Shahwardi and Brigantin will make it in the field. It is really mind boggling. It's a tragedy as it would have really made it the best Cup we've ever seen but some slow ones have kept them out. What a disgrace they're paying $49,500 final acceptance for Precedence. He can hardly get out of his own way. Unusual Suspect = disgrace. Voila Ici & Glencadam Gold must be enormous risks. Agreed the qualifying conditions are there to be followed, but it is still a shame.
Lost In The Moment will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy. Not sure why this is one of your issues De Lago. Sitting at 26 you'd think he'd make it (most years he would) But the Lexus winner will jump him as well.

Message: One at juicy odds although have not heard much about: Lost In The Moment. Good lead up form. 6th last year only 3 lenghts behind Dunaden. Same weight as last year (53kgs) 5yo. My only 2 concerns are the jockey and whether it gets a run (currently 26th).
Message: Doos, Iggy is correct. Robs form analysis is integral to the tried horses they buy. Even Stony Bay, how long ago was that, was one recommended by Rob Descarado was another, Glencadam Gold more recently. Joe.

Message: Iggy are you suggesting it's Rob who selects the lions share of the horses who end up in the Waterhouse stable?
Gai's endless traipsing round the sales and all her comments about why she specifically wanted to bid on this that or the other horse is just part of her shopfront operation?
Message: Does the fact that Shahwardi has steadily blown from $13 to $35 in the last two weeks pretty much mean that he has no hope of making the field?
Message: Doos is right - Gai's 1 dimensional approach works well when they get left in front but in these big races it can be a mad scramble and brings them undone. Also she gives them most of their lead ups in Sydney and they don't have much left when they get to Melbourne.
