Im currently in a tipping competition with about 200 others, whereby you place your tip for each race on the Melbourne metro Saturday card, and are paid the divs for $1 each way, should your selection win, or place. The winner is the one at the end of the comp {goes for about 40 weeks} with the most in his/her bank. There is a weekly prize for the biggest collect for each day as well.
What I want to know is, which is better to aim for? The weekly prize {requiring a couple of roughies to be tipped} or the grand prize, which would be "safer" tips? I have been told that to average your outlay {$16-$18 on most cards, as there are 8-9 races a day} will win you the comp, but which would be easier/have more chance to win?
Any help would be appreciated, Im currently 90th or something after 6 weeks of it, and there are 215 involved.
Message: Muirfield is one of the average punters/tipsters of the site. I say Don't bet until you find a strategy that you have trialled and found effective of your own. That is the best way and you don't have to worry about the inside out info of someone else's strategy.
There is a tipping comp on this site called The Century Club that I invite you and anyone else to join in the Spring.
As a matter of fact I happen to be winning the comp so I'm probably the best person to give advice.
I concur that at the end of the day there is no point tipping a horse that simply won't in all likelihood win. My successful strategy (punting wise as well) is to back the horse you think will win IF IT'S PRICE IS BETTER THAN YOU ASSESS IT SHOULD BE. That said, if you are tossing up between two horses, one is $2 and one is $7, don't be at all afraid to back the long shot. Sometimes a horse like Transferal comes up at $38 when it should have been around $5. Never look a gift horse in the mouth!
Take a look at the results of a particular meeting and you would be surprised how many horses win around the $6 - $10.
There is a winner in every race. It is our job to find it. If that means backing Lonhro in the Aust Cup at $2 when he should be $1.20 then go for it!
