Sunday, 22 April 2007: A group of Victorian jockeys are under investigation for betting on races.
Racing Victoria stewards have launched an investigation but have not released any names.
Stewards interviewed four jockeys at Sandown on Saturday.
Chief steward Des Gleeson declined to reveal their identities or details of the questioning but it is understood two jumps jockeys were among those interviewed.
It is understood the stewards have details of jockeys who hold TAB accounts.
While licensed jockeys may not bet on horse racing there is no restriction on them engaging in other forms of gambling including sports betting.
Gleeson said no charges have yet been laid.
The Victorian Jockeys Association intends seeking information on the inquiry from the stewards.
Meanwhile Sydney's chief steward Ray Murrihy has flown to England to assist prosecutors in the corruption case involving champion jockey Kieren Fallon.
Fallon is among more than 30 people facing conspiracy chrages.
Murrihy has been asked to provide expert advice to the prosecution lawyers on the riding tactics employed in UK races under investigation, including several involving Fallon.
Murrihy was first called on by London police to assist them as an expert witness in 2004 when the investigation began.
