Tuesday, 15 April 2008: The wheels are turning to develop a multi-million dollar three-code racing precinct at Tamworth in north-west NSW.
A working party comprising members of Tamworth Regional Council, representatives from local race clubs, Harness Racing NSW, National Coursing Association and Greyhounds NSW has commissioned a feasibility study and business plan for the complex on land adjacent to the existing Tamworth racecourse.
The plan calls for the greyhound and harness clubs to relocate from their existing locations to new tracks that will be part of the precinct built on land next to the existing Tamworth Jockey Club racecourse.
Tamworth Harness Racing Club, currently using Tamworth Showground, supports the plan after being frustrated in its search for a suitable site for a new track.
The plans include a grandstand to be located on the western side of the TJC racecourse to service the new pacing and greyhound tracks.
Funding for the complex is the next priority for the working party.
Tamworth Jockey Club is currently locked into a million redevelopment of existing grandstand facilities but supports the complex plan.
