Aquanita Trio To Clash In Tauto

Friday, 15 January 2010: The three Aquanita Caulfield trainers will nominate their three respective runners in tomorrow's Tauto Handicap at Flemington for the feature Cups races in Tasmania.

The Heath Conners-trained Davcon , Tony Vasil's De Fine Lago  and Robert Smerdon's Anavalanche  will all clash in tomorrow's race at Flemington over a mile.

And the trio will all be nominated for the $400,000 Group 3 AAMI Hobart Cup on February 8.

Like a number of his rivals tomorrow who return from let-ups, Davcon hasn't raced since finishing third behind Itstheone in the Ballarat Cup in mid-November.

De Fine Lago has won his last three, the latest over 2500m at Moonee Valley just over a month ago.

Anavalanche, though, is just getting to peak fitness now and is suited with a light weight tomorrow.

While he will be nominated for the Tassie features, Smerdon said he is unlikely to go as he found the trip too far last year.

“He'll be nominated for Tassie but it's a tricky track at Hobart and Glen Boss (who rode him in last year's Hobart Cup) said he thinks 2000m is as far as he wants,” Smerdon said.

“So he's unlikely to go. There's plenty of middle distance races around for him here.

“Tomorrow he's just about at his top and he gets a bit of weight relief as he runs in tougher grade.”

Anavalanche was runner-up over a mile at Moonee Valley last start with 58.5kg and drops to just 53kg for Glen Boss tomorrow.

Anavalanche is the $4.60 second favourite behind Bangerang Quikpic at $2.90.

Davcon is an $11.00 chance while De Fine Lago is at $8.00.

Moment In Time has been scratched as she is running at Morphettville.
