The filly, prepared by
Tony Vasil at Caulfield, finished her spring as one of the best maidens in the country.
In five starts in her first campaign she had finished runner-up four times, including a narrow loss behind Faint Perfume in the Crown Oaks.
This campaign, Vasil has taken her through an easier route and kicked off with an effortless five length maiden win at Sale, before taking a step up last Friday at Moonee Valley.
There she carried 59kg over a mile and settled last before circling the field and quickly putting the race beyond doubt, again eased up on the line.
Valdemoro
, related to previous stable stars Elvstroem and
Haradasun, will now return to Group 1 class when she tackles the Storm Queen Stakes at Rosehill on Golden Slipper day en route to the AJC Oaks.
“She's a very good horse,” Vasil said following her latest win. “We chose to take her to Sale for more or less a barrier trial and Moonee Valley was another step in the right direction.
“She'll now head up to Sydney on Golden Slipper day and will run in the Storm Queen over 2000m then onwards to the Oaks.”
The $400,000 Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes, which has been a good race for Victorian fillies in recent years, is at Rosehill on April 3 while the $350,000 Group 1 Australian Oaks is at Randwick a fortnight later.
