Magic Run To Continue At Morphettville

Friday, 30 July 2010: In-form sprinter Streetcar Magic has earned the chance to tackle stakes grade in tomorrow's Listed Reliance Petroleum Stakes at Morphettville.

The David Jolly-trained gelding brought up his third straight win last start over 1050m at Morphettville but it wasn't the fact he won but how he did it that convinced his trainer to run this weekend.

Two starts ago he used his speed and sat outside the leader and proved too good, but last time was taken on early so was restrained by jockey Justin Potter with a sit.

He finished off strongly to score another win and set himself for a big finish to his three-year-old season.

“He's obviously had a very good preparation and earned his chance at this,” Jolly said.

“Last start he took a sit off a good pace and it was pleasing to see him do that because there's little doubt if he's any chance of winning tomorrow he'll probably have to do the same.

“With so much pace in the race tomorrow he should be able to use his good gate and sit off them.”

The Blevic gelding has raced seven times for four wins and a minor and Justin Potter has been aboard all seven runs.

The versatile Potter, who also rides over the jumps, was involved in a hurdle fall last weekend where he crashed heavily but he's no stranger to that, his background being in rodeo riding.

Fears he was injured were quickly put to rest by riding a winner in Darwin the following day.

“Justin has been an integral part of this horse's success,” Jolly said. “He's been a difficult horse to get going but Justin is a strong standover rider. He deserves to win a good race on him.”

Jolly said win, lose or draw Streetcar Magic  would have a break following tomorrow's run but believes in time he will make a good sprinter, especially on soft tracks.

Streetcar Magic has been installed the $7.00 second favourite in a wide open race where Broadway Harmony and Martika share favouritism at $6.00, Streetcar Magic and General Truce are at $7.00, Nicastro $8.00 and Obsidian Dragon at $9.00 with a host of others a point or two away.
