He Sure Is A Toff

Saturday, 24 September 2011: Toorak Toff, the high class son of Queensland's champion sire Show A Heart, completed a wonderful comeback after an aborted stud career and a throat operation to claim the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Toorak Toff is a valuable individual as Show A Heart is the last remaining Star Kingdom line stallion still consistently producing stakes winners in Australia.

Therefore the future of this sire-line sits squarely on his sons worthy of commercial stud use, such as Toorak Toff.

Just when and where Toorak Toff will stand is wide open as stud negotiations that were on the table last season broke down.

"They didn't want to give us enough money. Now it's going to cost them more,:” said part owner and trainer Rick Hore-Lacy.

Toorak Toff  has been in top echelon since he won at Caulfield on debut. He went on to claim a G3 race as a 2YO, the G1 Golden Rose as three and now has a second G1 win as a 4YO.

“He is a serious, serious horse,” said trainer Rick Hore Lacy. “I was confident we had got over all of his problems when he went so well first up in the Bobbie Lewis a few weeks ago.

"With all the problems he's had it's just wonderful to see him come back and beat a good field like that.
"He had the throat operation and I've just had a lot of problems with him."

"But this time everything has gone smoothly. There are very few gallopers in the land that I am worried about when this fellow is on his game and has no bad luck.

“He is a very versatile horse and we have plenty of options open to us.”

Toorak Toff was purchased by part owner Bill Van Rooy for $135,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is from the unraced but well related Grand Lodge mare Orong, one of the top mares at Glenlogan Park in Queensland.

The mare's latest yearling, a filly by the Flying Spur sire Jet Spur, will go under the hammer at January's 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She will be one of the standouts in a draft that will also include a Sebring half sister to Love Conquers All.
